Here let’s consider a significant fact. The Democrat Party is not one–but two–political parties with the same name. They unite only once every two years–to wage political campaigns. But at one extreme is a wing where the campaigns of this year were largely settled in southern primaries held weeks ago. At the other extreme is the stronger wing, dominated by political radicals. The campaign we are in, and the campaign of that wing are still going on. Now these self-styled liberals are the ones who really challenge sane, forward-looking government in the United States. It is against the spread of their radical influence that we are waging this campaign. In that fight we must be together one hundred percent. Our Republican Party and these political radicals are poles apart.
After Ike it subsided a little, but was back with a vengeance (literally) after Watergate. I’ll spare you the text of the Republican Party platform in 1976; suffice it to say that “Democrat” was misused in it dozens of times, even prompting a couple of NYT articles on the subject.
Here’s a short WP article that appeared a few months later:
Sen. Bob Dole has made peace with the “Democrat” Party. At a congressional hearing last week he started in on a sentence about "my good friend, Bob Strauss, when he was chairman of the Democrat Party - " and then he stopped himself and corrected it to “Democratic.” “I’ll use ‘Democratic’ again now that the election is over,” said the infighter from Kansas.
And on and on it went, though the decades, reaching another local maximum when Gingrich, Armey, DeLay, and Luntz were ascendant. Bush, Jr. came in and joined the club.
It occurs to me that these expanded tweets illustrate the Dumpster’s crumbling hold on the discourse surrounding his pResidency.
During the campaign and afterwards he could disrupt with a short charged tweet that riled everyone followers and resisters alike. Now he is sending out these long, unfocused rambles.
Sad!
Spanky must have not known about or realized the extent of McGahn’s interviews with Mueller et. al. There has been some speculation that it was part of some shrewd complex plan to undercut Mueller’s investigation. It turns out that Spanky’s first set of lawyers screwed up and put him in even greater jeopardy. He has to assume that they now know almost everything that went on before and after the election regarding the Russians and it is making him even crazier than usual. I am hoping that the Dems will win the House at least and he will do something rational for once and resign.
You have to wonder if Donald Trump is just mudding up the waters in his endless quest to gaslight our nation to get his ass out of trouble or does he really not realize the majority of the investigators including Robert Mueller are indeed Republicans. The trouble is, they are the rare kind of Republican that you don’t see anymore, the kind with integrity and swore an oath to protect our constitution.
Nope. I did put a condition on the idea and I think when it comes to common decency of the family and party we all learned what we needed to know a long time ago.
Sarah would probably say, if they were crimes then why didn’t the appropriate authorities investigate and charge Manafort? Why did it take an angry, … blah, blah, biased, … out-of-control, intent on bringing down the President, Special Counsel to bring charges?
From WaPo this am:
“The president of the United States had just lobbed another racially charged insult — this time calling his former top African American adviser a “dog” — but Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) had no interest in talking about it.
“I’ve got more important things on my mind, so I really don’t have a comment on that,” said the Senate’s No. 2 Republican, chuckling at the question.
Has President Trump ever said anything on race that made Cornyn uncomfortable? “I think the most important thing is to pay attention to what the president does, which I think has been good for the country,” the senator demurred.
What about his constituents back home — are they concerned? “I know you have to ask these questions but I’m not going to talk about that,” Cornyn said, politely ending the brief interview in the basement of the U.S. Capitol. “I just think that’s an endless.”
Not to mention the fact that every phone on the planet has auto correct or at least suggestive spelling
Fits the mold though.
Too stubborn to admit the phone is right.
Executive order #87
Things are to be spelled the way the president says they’re spelled, phones, computers and people are not permitted to correct
Where is Montesquieu (of The Spirit of the Laws, 1748) when you need him?
POTUS may not have read the constitution but surely the overwhelming majority of those who sit on the Hill have.
Surely they know that it is long past time to invoke the 25th amendment. The one I believe that allows for the transfer of responsibilities for the Executive in the event that the president is impaired and unable to fulfil his or her duties.
President Trump is clearly impaired and in his current state he is a daily threat to the separation of powers (enshrined in the US constitution).
Please tell me if I am wrong? Doesn’t the US have three branches of government - a legislature, an executive, and a judiciary? I believe that’s the so-called trias politica model - which is supposed to be superior to the model operating in my country, the UK. And, isn’t separation of powers meant to divide the responsibilities of governing the state so that there is a break on any one branch that seeks to invade the core functions of another?
The current POTUS has sought to interfere in current legal proceedings and in a properly authorised investigation into external interference in a US election. And, from what I have been reading, he has sought to do a great deal more besides that is illegitimate and simply demeaning, for a US head of state.
How can any honourable and competent legislator or member of the judiciary accept behaviour that threatens the separation of powers? How can any honourable and competent legislature or judiciary fail to challenge such behaviour?
Answers please, on a postcard, to all the current members of SCOTUS and members of the Congress of the United States.
