Discussion: Trump Bear-Hugs $1.3 Trillion Omnibus As Conservatives Threaten To Revolt

Does anyone have insight into this:

“The CLOUD Act provides a framework for reciprocal treaties for nations to request data from computers located within each other’s borders. It also provides a mechanism for a Microsoft to take a law enforcement demand to court if it would force them to violate another country’s rules. But when neither apply, law enforcement will be able to demand files in accordance with U.S. law.”

“It is troubling when we get a tunnel and we don’t get a wall. Last time I checked, the President didn’t make any promises about a tunnel in any of his campaign stops.”

Leaving aside the absurdity of any sentence that talks about donnie keeping promises, I wasn’t aware congressional spending legislation was based on what a President promises on the campaign trail.

What did you expect to see? I don’t expect to get any real wins on the Democratic agenda in this Congress. So I’m happy to see that pretty much the entire Republican agenda has been blocked. No doubt they slipped some things in there that nobody has noticed yet, but it’s hard to do really significant things that way. The devastating Trump budget that everyone got worked up about has been completely ignored.

They could have passed a lot of terrible things if they’d had their act together, but thanks to the stupidity and intransigence of people like Meadows and Jordan, they didn’t.

Conservatives, even you aren’t being represented.

Republicans are just taking our money and giving it to their friends. The rumor is that some of their friends are Russian.

How much of our tax dollars are going to be handed over to foreign dictators and oligarchs?

“This allows bureaucrats to take away people’s Second Amendment liberties and make a determination about whether you’re fit to have a firearm and not a court of law.”

Because the second is the special right. All the other rights backed by the Constitution are routinely denied, restricted, or regulated by government, and the people affected need to turn to the courts to determine if the government actions are Constitutional.

For a concrete example, Meadows, I refer to your own state legislature’s redistricting map and voting rule changes that were deliberately created to achieve unequal treatment on the basis of race.

True, but GOP is not phased, or at least they appear so.

Looking at what happened with science is interesting…basically all of the science funding went up, with increases that match or beat inflation. That’s compared with cuts over 20% in some cases, and lots of programs were saved, compared to the Trump budget proposal. It shows a budget system in the White House (led by Mick Mulvaney) that is out of step with what the majority of Congress wants, and what we would get with the “Freedom Caucus” in charge.

We’re going to be in so much better shape once the Democrats get control again, budgets will start to make sense and be balanced…though we’ll still have to deal with the Republicans crying about deficits. Maybe we will get lucky and their hypocrisy will be easier to call out after all this.
