Can. Not. Govern.
Cilantro subsidies were slashed so itâs all good.
Conservatives have always been threatening and revolting. Whatâs changed?
Paul Ryan: My hands are tied. Trump is a big liberal commie spender. He is going to balloon the deficit.
The 1.3 trillion number has a nice symmetry to it, especially as we are bombarded by âballoon the deficitâ wailing from our recent tax cuttersâŚ
If this bill needs dems votes to get it passedâŚthen the dems need to go back and get more of the things they want if Ryan needs their help to pass this
That will come the instant Democrats gain control of anything.
Conservative lawmakers on Capitol Hill, however, are not pleased, saying the bill includes many provisions they oppose
Good sampling of âconservativeâ opinion, Ms. Ollstein, thank you. And I understand it was the point of the article, per the headline, but I hope you or someone else at TPM is also working on a round-up of Democratic views.
Conservatives threaten to revolt, garner press coverage, vote party line. Susan Collins now controls the GOP.
Nothing - theyâve been revolting for years.
I have to say, there are some things about this I like (if it actually survives the next 36 hours).
Freedom Caucus loses. Who doesnât love hearing Meadows bitch, moan, and whine because heâs losing?
Ryan concedes he needs Democratic votes, and accepts them.
Progress, even if minimal, on guns. NRA loses.
Yuuuge deficit increases while Râs hold House, Senate, and White House. I know, I know, theyâll blame Democrats, but the truth couldnât be more obvious.
Border wall is slow-walked (crawled, actually), and Trump loses on that.
Trump loses, NRA loses, Freedom Caucus loses, Hastert Rule is weakened. Republicans are exposed. Not perfect, but not all bad.
Typically when a group of people realize Trump has defrauded them they file a class action. I guess thatâs not the exact solution here, though.
MeanwhileâŚ
Live hogs are also in Chinaâs sites, Iâve read. Iowa will not benefit from a trade war.
(Note: the file name calls this a âdonald-trump-trade-warâ-- looks like the editor opposed that title.)
Yay, I was looking forward to more stories about âfiscally conservativeâ Republicans who are âdeeply troubledâ by the spending bill they put together. Also pundits gently wondering if these are ever so small signs of hypocrisy from the GOP. Everything old is new again!
Beat me to the punch there.
Iâm a little disappointed. What if the Dâs at this stage flat out refused to proceed without all of this + codifying Mueller protections? Is the conventional wisdom that this would be too dangerous politically for November because things look safe as is so itâs better not to allow for volatility in that unlikely event that itâs the Dâs looking like the ones rocking the boat? (I donât see that as a risk because of the weak position the Râs would be protecting if they didnât concede.)
I might just be reacting to having thought weâd get more at some point in this congress.
I thought that about the economy after bush taxcut, gotowar, and deregulate!, crashed the economy to near depression levels, and Obama dug us out. Which held as a view (that it was Bush) right up until⌠2016 elections. Suddenly we are back to the bush equation. So I donât count on that point. But agree with much of what you said.
Mark Meadows. A man with the intelligence of grout mold, the heart of a FedEx shipping box, and the personality ofâŚa Republican!
Yeah, I donât know from strategy. Iâm just glad to see some of the worst Republican positions and lies take a hit while they seemingly control everything.
