Discussion: Trump Appears To Soften Stance On Mass Deportation

“I just want to follow the law”

then you should know that you can’t just shut down the Clinton Foundation or use the Justice Department as your own personal Gestapo and that you’re contractually obligated to pay your vendors instead of stiffing them…

What people don’t know is that Obama got tremendous numbers of people out of the country, Bush the same thing. Lots of people were brought out of the country with the existing laws. Well, I’m gonna do the same thing.

Wow. So he really doesn’t want to be president! His base is going to attack this RINO with more ferocity than his bwana-be sons!

So, the new message is “We’re building a wall, but it’s purely decorative”?!
That will win votes from all sides!

… btw, how many appearance cancelations has he announced in the last couple of days? At least 3, right? What’s going on?

"Political prognostication is a risky business.

If you doubt that, do an internet search on all of the pollsters and pundits who predicted Donald Trump’s run for the Republican nomination would come to naught.

This is the reason that I limit all of my political wagers to a six-pack of beer.

I was reminded of that practice when the Trump campaign elevated New Jersey’s own Kellyanne Conway to the role of campaign manage."

Has he ever told the truth?

Trump’s supporters want him to spew racist rhetoric. In fact, they live for it. On the other hand, the GOP leaders (who don’t care if Trump actually is a racist) want him publicly to stick to a script that avoids such overt bigotry.
This is not an easy tightrope to walk.

Ok I’ve had three sips of coffee and this doesn’t sound like the Trump we’ve come to know and mock. And first brought is the past and past participle of bring. Can we ask to see his school transcripts from his English classes from grade school through college? To echo a lot of his racist friends and supporters this is America Speak English!
Second it’s good to recognize the Presidents Bush and Obama were/are following the law.

Ok, time to start making travel plans. Have they confirmed the date / location / time of the GOP funeral yet?

If he really is going down this path some left-leaning PAC ought to start running ads comparing what he says now to what he said in the primary to outrage his supporters.

Press release headline: Donald Trump Supports Obama’s Immigration and Deportation Efforts, Will Not Change Policy

No, they will not. They are Republicans. Trump can completely reverse his positions, they will still vote for him. He can kill some of them for no reason, they will still vote for him.

If he does what Obama has been doing it kind of goes against his ad saying he’ll do things differently than Obama and Hillary, if elected, will just do what Obama has been doing.

Hear that? Conservative heads exploding.

That’s a niiiice flip-flop.

Donald Trump is delaying his major address on immigration originally scheduled for Thursday in Colorado because the Republican nominee is trying to get a better handle on “such a complex issue,” campaign manager Kellyanne Conway explained Tuesday, blasting reports that Trump is softening or changing his approach on immigration enforcement.
“You know, we inherited this schedule and although I think it’s a great idea to have that kind of speech and certainly put together a full plan, immigration is such a complex issue and Mr. Trump has been taking the counsel of many different people on this,” Conway said during an interview on “Fox & Friends.” "He obviously has some very strong feelings and policy prescription with respect to immigration, but he’s speaking to people to understand how to execute on those ideas."

Trump entered the race 14 months ago. From the moment he announced immigration issues have constituted the centerpiece of his campaign. After 14 goddamned months his campaign chairperson can look a journo in the eye and say he's still trying to understand the complexities of the issue. How does this square with Trump claiming he'll fix virtually every problem the nation faces "so fast your head will spin"?

This reminds me of nothing so much as when you’re trying to extricate yourself from a conversation with a huckster salesclown, and you’re saying “no really, I have to go, you have a nice day” and the guy realizes he’s two seconds from a lost sale so he starts gabbling in this panicked way, throwing out whatever offers and promises and cajolery he can to keep you there. Trump never thought, never realized the general-election voters might not go for the bullshit mass-deportation crap the base thought was so awesome. All he can say now is he’ll do what Obama did but in some unspecified way more awesomely, with more “energy,” whatever that means. It’s essentially meaningless verbiage he hopes will sound good enough to keep him in the game, but it seems the general-election folks, bless their commonsensical hearts, think it sounds like the crap it is.

Trump: "The YOOOGE’ difference is that I will be implementing my deportation plan while being white."

BTW: Trump keeps cancelling events. Taken back to Trump Towers to recuperate. Must be his health. Imaginary doctor says he’s healthy. I have read this. A lot of people are saying it. Low energy. No stamina. Puffy. Sweating. Very sick. Heavy drug use to keep going? It’s been said. SAD.

Trump just flushed his own policy position. Maybe he should update is website?

“You don’t have to put them in a detention center,” Trump said. "I never even heard the term. I’m not gonna put them in a detention center,” he added.

From Trump’s campaign website, his policy position on Immigration:

Detention—not catch-and-release. Illegal aliens apprehended crossing the border must be detained until they are sent home, no more catch-and-release.
