“he will do the “same thing” as President Obama”
Why not? His wife copied from an Obama too.

Maybe Obama will get some credit in GOP circles for reducing the illegal immigration rate. Trump basically endorsed Hillary Clinton’s approach to immigration. Comprehensive immigration reform will be law.
The guy who is going to screw Trump on this is Ted Cruz, and Cruz’s supporters like Congressman Steven King (IA). This is basically, from a right wing perspective, supporting amnesty.
Ted Cruz during a nationally televised GOP debate attempted to draw Trump out on rumors of the backtracking we see today. Trump essentially denied it, would not allow the NYTimes to release the interview and called Ted Cruz a liar when summing up and re-emphasizing his deportation plans.
Donald Trump says during GOP debate that he will not allow the New York Times to release tapes of an off-the-record conversation where he discussed his views on immigration.
When asked whether he said he would not actually try to deport all people illegally in the country, Trump replies, “I may have discussed something like that”
***Says negotiators have to be flexible in negotiation, but that on this issue he is “not very flexible”***
Trump adds, “There’s always give and take, there’s always negotiation, and the best negotiator who knows what he’s doing will make the best deal.”
***Cruz says tape is “troubling"; ‘‘What’s been reported is Donald told the editorial board of the New York Times, what I’m saying on immigration I don’t believe"; Says if he didn’t, he should simply release the tapes***
***Trump, after Cruz pushes issue more, replies, ‘‘I’ve given my answer, lying Ted”***

I will do just like Obama BUT WITH MORE ENERGY.
I will be the RICHARD SIMMONS President!!!
They won’t even notice he’s changed course. Too busy sharing the “sick Hillary” videos on the facebook.
So…he’d do the same thing but with more ‘ENERGY’!??
Kellyanne will look you in the eye and tell you the sky is green and expect you to believe it. It was always YOU that wasn’t ‘seeing’ correctly.
Huh, Donald’s now behind those incompetent government leaders’ work 100%. It’s a beautiful thing.
Ooh, the blacker the leader the sweeter the policy…eh, Donald?
This is not a pivot. This is bait and switch. Presumably his new campaign manager has convinced him that if he keeps up doing what he’s been doing he’s going to lose.
It will be interesting to see how his hard core followers will respond to this.
“I just want to follow the law.”
No Mr Trump …history shows us you don’t.
Donnie’s fire breathing base are not gonna be amused.
And adding to the (gargantuan) list of reasons Trump is not even remotely qualified to be President of the United States is that he has “never even heard of” immigration detention centers.
Next up: “Immigration judges? Never heard of such a thing. ICE? Are you talking about Trump Ice? Border Patrol? No such thing.”
“You don’t have to put them in a detention center,” Trump said.
"I never even heard the term. I’m not gonna put them in a detention center,” he added. “We want to do it in a very humane manner.”
I understand Trump is completely ignorant about policy but this is still astonishing. He’s admits he doesn’t know what a detention center is. That means he doesn’t even know the basics of how the current immigration enforcement system works. During the 14 months he’s been running for president he could spend 10 minutes to read about it. He could have just had am immigration lawyer explain to him how the process works. Trump is beyond stupid.
Sure it does. He said some very vague comments that are not tied to any detailed policies that he could be held accountable for, and he is saying what he thinks a particular crowd wants to hear.
Even beyond that, in typical Trump fashion, he thinks his “base” is now contractually obligated to vote for him, so he is completely free to reneg on any past promises or statements. And he will reneg on this statement too, once he starts getting push back…pointing out how tough his past rhetoric has been on deportations.
This is quintessential Trump, saying two seemingly contradictory things, neither with any actual substance behind them, so he can switch back and forth between them as the need arises.
But, as every news channel tells us…repeatedly…Hillary is the untrustworthy one. ![]()
Nice catch.
He now seems to think that he can do both and that there is some kind of firewall that will prevent both groups from hearing both messages. I don’t think the hard core supporters will care, so long as he continues to spout the unvarnished sentiments that they agree with. But those who are troubled by that kind of talk will, at best, wonder which side of the fence, ahem, Trump is actually on, and more likely, will perceive that the more moderate statements are simply a kind of pandering to get votes. As Romney found out, there is no real etch-a-sketch available to candidates in the internet era. To be really effective at this, you have to be supremely gifted at dog whistling.
the establishment would never let him do it just like they did with 43 when he talked about a road to amnesty
Detention centers are literally the heart of U.S. policy on undocumented residents who come to the attention of ICE. I don’t know how many centers there are but there are thousands of immigrants detained and waiting the processing of asylum claims or (more likely) deportation. Among other things, it’s how rural and private prisons are trying to stay afloat now that the crime rate has dropped so much and the fetish for long sentences for drug crimes has worn off. I can understand how the average person might not know all this, but a candidate for president? Not a chance. He is lying.
