Trump Admin. Purging Civil Servants Suspected Of Disloyalty
He just wishes he could “purge” them like his pals Kim and Vlad
A little poison in a handkerchief, a little nerve gas or a mysterious fall from an apartment balcony

It’s extremely troubling, because federal government employees’ loyalty should be to the Constitution, not to the political masters of the moment.

This is the problem in a nutshell. Not only is it a bad idea to require loyalty to individual leaders, but it is impossible to be loyal to Trump and loyal to the Constitution at the same time. Just impossible.

Agreed.

Its also a problem because political appointees, particularly in the Trump era, are usually extremely incompetent. Which means we are looking at another decade of just trying to repair the staffing and institutional knowledge losses that Trump is inflicting.

"Employees who feel they have faced unfair retaliation can appeal their cases to the Merit Systems Protection Board, but the board currently has just one member and is unable to hear cases until more are confirmed. As of the end of 2017, the board had the longest backlog of cases in its history, topping more than 750. Two men nominated by President Trump to serve on the board are currently awaiting Senate confirmation. "

Maggie the Fluffer has another piece out about how Trump isn’t angry, he is just emboldened now because he knows how things work. Its typical Maggie BS of course, as she is slavishly committed to her role to be his Fluffler in Chief…but what IS happening, is people around him, like Miller, ARE figuring out how the levers work. That is where the advice from people like Gingrich comes into play. They are coaching the WH staff up on how to really destroy things. Figuring out to strip the Merit Systems Protection Board is so far beyond Trump’s mental capabilities…but not someone like Gingrich. Or Miller, after a mentoring session or two.

Great article btw, Ms Ollstein.

“I think a cleaning is in order here,” Gingrich wrote to State Department officials.

.

No, someone else wrote that and addressed it to Gingrich.

Their mistakes are bad enough. Let’s not compound them with our own carelessness.

Republicans to imprison 65,000,000 citizens.

Remember when for 8 years Republicans accused a very moderate Obama of being a dictator. Haven’t heard a thing out of those traitors in a year or better…

Not true, as far as I know.

Looks like it’s coming down the pike.

The European Center For Constitutional And Human Rights (ECCHR) argued in the submitted dossier that Haspel, who was appointed to the post by President Donald Trump in February, oversaw the torture instead of stopping it.
“Those who commit, order or allow torture should be brought before a court – this is especially true for senior officials from powerful nations,” said ECCHR’s General Secretary Wolfgang Kaleck on the group’s website. “The prosecutor must, under the principle of universal jurisdiction, open investigations, secure evidence and seek an arrest warrant. If the deputy director travels to Germany or Europe, she must be arrested.”

That’s possible.

Meanwhile, note that one important accusation made against Haspel (and echoed by others, including me) has now been retracted.

It was reported that Haspel was in charge of a certain facility at a time when an inmate there was being tortured, but now there’s evidence that she was not in charge of that facility at the time.

[Our] story said that Haspel, a career CIA officer who President Trump has nominated to be the next director of central intelligence, oversaw the clandestine base where Zubaydah was subjected to waterboarding and other coercive interrogation methods that are widely seen as torture. The story also said she mocked the prisoner’s suffering in a private conversation. Neither of these assertions is correct and we retract them. It is now clear that Haspel did not take charge of the base until after the interrogation of Zubaydah ended.

Can we possibly be surprised by this… Imagine republicans actually trying to remove those who don’t agree with them from government, and install more sycophants. The press will make this front page news, when the democrats start doing the same thing next time they are in power.

This is likely as serious as the Russia scandal, because it undermines the fabric of government.

Since when is loyalty to the nation and its citizens a punishable offense? When self-styled tyrants say so.
