@randyabraham UmmmâŚThe sentiment is appealing, but the basis is shaky.
I realize the quote is apocryphal, but it fits the moment.
Thanks for that. I go a little nuts whenever people trot out some Mark Twain quote that quibblers like me go and point out he never actually said. That one about how itâs easier to fool people than persuade them theyâd been fooled? Never said it, not in that form. The idea, sure, in a longish passage. The one about hoisting anchor and living your dreams, that one he never would have said, itâs far too saccharine. Chances are if you saw it on BrainyQuotes or GoodReads you should doubt itâs real. There are other really careless quote collectors but theyâre among the worst.
But itâs misinformation. Itâs never the moment to spread misinformation, especially not knowingly. Please reconsider whether this is sort-of OK, because itâs really not. : (
Over and over again, I think of James A. Farley: When the water reaches the main deck, follow the rats.
Yes, the parallels are striking, no longer hyperbolic or unbelievable, a huge lesson to all of us who thought it couldnât happen here.
We must work hard to turn this around and be more vigilant in the future - that includes all institutions in this country.
Add in the Koch Brothers, Adelson and the Usual Suspects!
Fair enough.
Itâs a good summation of Trump, however, and one to remember going forward, especially since weâre not out of the woods yet. The behavior of the Republican Party weighs heavily on our current situation.
AND, after they are out of power, these cravenly appointed saboteurs will claim civil rights violations and discrimination if a future administration attempts to remove them. This is also part of their polluted plan for the Government. This is, in so many ways, Ronald Reagan Redux, but on steroids. Newt Gingrich is a scumbag of historical proportions. As is Donald Trump.
The idea is to so totally control the environment that Democrats canât come to power. I am sorry, but if this effort on the part of the Republican party fails, we need to find a new party to balance the Democrats. The Republicans are traitors to this nation. In light of this story there is no factor that would be redeeming among all of the leadership, not just the Trumpublicans in Congress, but indeed their thought leaders and anyone aware of this plan to replace everyone not âloyal to Trumpâ. OMFG
Thanks! Not saying itâs worse than the Hitler in question or anything. : ) And I sure wish there were one main source of reliable quotes, since there are so many awesome ones that people actually said.
Just have to toss in that back in the mid-90âs the sound of Gingrichâs voice reliably put me right over the edge every time I heard it (Thanks, NPR). These days the sight of his name in print gives me hives.
What has happened to those people who were hired to work in the Justice Department during the Bush years? Anyone know?
Wouldnât it be nice if Gingrich had his own legal problems because of his involvement in the Trump campaign? What a disgusting POS he is.
Just another item to put on his writ of impeachment. Trump is making it easy. Making it clear he has no respect for anyone or the rule of law.
I hate him, even though his bullying Dixiecrat nature gave Bill Clinton his finest hour, during the depths of the Impeachment and Lewinski scandal. After he had been ousted from Congress, as a person raised Catholic and who retains certain fondness for some of its values (especially Liberation Theology), I had to gag during the late 90s to read that Newt had decided to convert to Catholicism while attending mass at the National Cathedral (where Calixta was in the chorus) because of the grandiosity of the stained glass and cathedral ceilings. Since he is so pompous and has such a grandiose opinion of himself, it figured. But still made me puke.
Jeeez-us. Iâd not heard the National Cathedral story. What a touching fabrication to cover up his locking on to his animatronic honeybun.
So heâs basically firing all civil servants then?
But the important accusation that she ran a torture camp stands.
Iâm glad the record has been corrected.
However, to quote Charles P Pierce-
Haspel at some point after Zubaydahâs torture was in charge to the torture camp at which the torture was conducted and, second, that Haspel destroyed video evidence of the torture that occurred at the torture camp over which she was picked to preside.
She ran a torture camp. What happens at torture camps?
