Discussion: Treasury Secretary Asks Congress To Act To Avert Debt Ceiling Crisis

Yes, that’s it exactly.

The two faces of corruption in America.

"Treasury Secretary Jack Lew asked Congress on Friday to lift the debt ceiling “without controversy…”
Yo, Jack, did you run this by Bibi (R-milk&honey)?

" Failure to act would have savage impacts on American families: tumbling retirement savings and soaring interest rates for student loans, mortgages, credit cards, and car payments."

None of which affects members of Congress, because taxpayers pay that for them too.

rational left. I see this going down one of two ways:

  1. They quietly approve a debt ceiling hike in the middle of summer when no one is paying attention. I can see McConnell and Boehner doing so in order to avoid another embarrassing showdown that ends with total capitulation and questions about their leadership.
  2. They suffer a few weeks of horrible optics where they’re once again threatening to default, only to wind up capitulating at the last moment when public sentiment turns against them. Pretty much the way they’ve done everything since they gained control of the House.

RL: i’m going with door number 2.

Jack Lew, thank you so much for being very specific in rendering your request to the GoPers in averting another shutdown over raising our debt ceiling which has been done automatically for years. In fact, it makes one wonder, WTF have a debt ceiling in the first place if it has trouble passing?

Ah, an optimist. We don’t often see these in the wild any more…

Actually, this is fairly clever.

Law is asking them to do their jobs.

If they do, they will piss off that segment of the Teabaggers who believe the government CANNOT work and MUST not work because it will only help the ni(CLANG!)

If they don’t do anything, it’s another opportunity for the Democrats to lambast them as incompetents.
