I disagree. A majority of the elected GOP WISHES the FBI were framing him so it would give them an out. But they don’t believe it for a second.
This is one of those “if you say you believe that, you’re either lying or stupid or crazy” moments. The deplorables are stupid. Most of the GOP are lying. Rudy and the Dotard are crazy. Also lying and often stupid. But mostly criminally insane.
Good and interesting point. I think it gets you into questions of what word is best and whether a really appropriate word yet exists for the subject. “Military attack” so strongly connotes the use of physically damaging weapons that it’s only correct in the sense that it was an effort coordinated through the Russian military to damage us. It’s more like psyops or deception in the sense of working to their advantage by destabilizing and misleading us. “Meddling” is certainly not a strong enough word. “Tampering” is a bit stronger. “Manipulating” has about the right level of menace. But the means to do what they did, and their having successfully done it, are new phenomena for which we probably need new words. Or we could do the traditional English-language thing and borrow their own words—provokatsiya, deza, active measures, like that.

When you’re taking steps that could get our own intelligence sources killed, you are fucking well not a damn “patriot” and your motivations are not presumed to be legitimate. It’s been clear from the start what he was about. The only thing to know more about are the reasons.
My terrible client is guilty. You can have a decent chance with a smooth defendant who is guilty where you will never have a chance with a terrible client who is guilty.
And it’s the terrible client part that keeps him from being able to hire decent legal representation.

That’s a point I’ve been fixated on since just before the election: The Russian actions are, without question, Casus Belli; an act of war upon this nation. And, therefore, cooperation, participation, even knowledge of that attack, without bringing that knowledge to the attention of the FBI, constitutes treason, as defined in the U.S. Constitution.
OT, but I just heard John Brennan say that Bolton wants to do away with the head of the White House cyber security. The Hill and Politico have stories about this, so the news is out there, but this action does not bode well for the upcoming election.
