Discussion for article #245594
If Rubio gets double the votes of the second-place Establishment candidate, he’ll be the nominee. And things seem to be heading that way.
I couldn’t be happier. If there were someone who could fulfill my fantasies of mindless goose-stepping, without Cheney or Rumsfeld in the mix, it is our savior, Don J. Trump.
It’s time for us to rehearse our marching, so we can be in lock-step, our heels clicking in unison. Feel the tRump.
Lincoln said something about wise hens not cackling until their egg is laid.
Claiming frontrunner status is not the same as achieving it.
Trump’s got not-so-frontrunner egg all over his happy-face. And the kind of mob he appeals to doesn’t like second place.
If he’d steamrolled Iowa, he would have an argument to that frontrunner effect, but his 2nd place position is tantamount to complete failure for those all-or-nothing xenophobes.
Without his “inevitable winner” mystique, The Donald’s just a stubby-fingered little carnival barker.
Looking at the poll, Christie and Carson should be off the stage like Carly.
Tracking Poll Shows Trump’s Lead In New Hampshire Continuing To Slip
…slightly in a poll that has a margin of error plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
I gotta say. Trump’s new heart-shaped goatee is just not doing it for me.

I certainly hope you are right. Trump, his xenophobia and his pandering to people’s worst instincts make his candidacy a dangerous one at many levels.
By the way, the so-called “establishment” candidates (Rubio, Kasich, Bush, Christie) adding up to 39.2.
I called Roobio as the nominee on the night of the Ioweird caucus. However, I was drinking bourbon at the time. Really good bourbon!
Has Trump been uncharacteristically quiet since Iowa or has the media (finally) stopped paying attention to every offensive word that comes out of his mouth?
Happen to catch Trump while channel surfing last night with Anderson Cooper,A person told his health care story and asked trump what he intends to do about Obamacare, instead of answering the question he went into some diatribe about his campaign and the money he has or has not spent etc, etc.I thought at one point the questioner or Anderson Cooper would say ,well what is your answer.CRICKETS!
You are not gonna hear any policy from Trump. He doesn’t have any policy. His specialty is the empty sound bite. All he has is xenophobia. And when cornered his pat response is "We’ll build the classiest wall you ever saw and the Mexicans will pay for it!!
It’s a pity how much of my worldview is based in cartoons but all I’m hearing in my mind when I think about Trump is the classic slowly descending note from a slide whistle.
(cough) Umm…Trump is up in New Hampshire by 17 points in the Real Clear Politics average. He IS winning. Iowa, being very conservative and a caucus, was the absolute hardest race Trump will be in for the near future and he came in second. Trump is winning by a landslide in the next two contests and nationally. For anybody who says that Rubio is surging please list a state where it looks like he could actually win.
Iowa was Cruz’s best shot and he came in first. That’s great and all but Iowa has a horrible recent track record for picking republican nominees. Cruz looks like a solid second place candidate who’s next chance at winning a state looks to be his home state of Texas. Once again that’s great but it is his home state and would be just one of many states on super Tuesday, and after Trump likely would have won 3 straight contests: New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada.
All this talk of Trump failing misses the point that for Trump not to win somebody else has to. As bad as things might look for Trump, they are far worse for everybody else. All the support for the “establishment candidates” drops off a cliff after New Hampshire so it really doesn’t matter who ends up being the best of the worst in that group. Cruz is the only real threat to Trump but If it comes down to a two person race the establishment says they’d rather have Trump than Cruz. After Cruz’s stunt in Iowa even many Carson voters would have a hard time voting for him now.
Saw him delivering a stump speech in Derry on the tube a day or so ago, and he was as bloviating as ever with lots of claims of just how awsome he would be and what he would do to any other nation that dared oppose us. Donald hasn’t changed his pitch. Big question is whether he has a decent ground game in NH (where it admittedly is a different scenario than the Iowa caucus scene). He certainly doesn’t have enough time to change things much after admitting post Iowa that he didn’t have a ground game there and frankly didn’t know what it was until someone told him about it.
(And this kind of thought and preparation and nuanced analysis of the world around him is what a sizable chunk of the GOP electorate is hell bent to put in the Oval Office? - YIKES!!!)
BTW…re. Rubio…be sure to read Gail Collins column in the NYT today on the Bubble Boy. On point!
T.
I thought the same thing, but no he’s back or should I say the MSM is bringing him back.
Our fucking forefathers brought forth on this fucking continent a new fucking nation…
TRUMP is the modern day EVITA Peron . . . .
High flying, adored
What happens now, where do you go from here?
For someone on top of the world
The view is not exactly clear
High flying, adored
I hope you come to terms with boredom
So famous so easily, so soon
It’s not the wisest thing to be
You won’t care if they love you
It’s been done before
You’ll despair if they hate you
You’ll be drained of all energy
I was stuck in the right place at the perfect time
Filled a gap, I was lucky
But one thing I’ll say for me
No one else can do it like I can
However, when someone goes flying off the cliff, and the camera cranes over the edge, you can be sure they’ll be hanging from a tiny branch of a tiny tree on a tiny outcropping. It’s possible but I don’t see Trumps’ polls collapsing so fast that he actually loses NH. So, he wins with some margin greater then zero. His pitch will change to - “The only way they can beat me is through fraud”! (see: Cruz, Ted), something his voters have been thinking since that black guy stole the White House. I think we’re going to have him to kick around a little longer.
Agreed. I’d love to see him collapse but he’s actually still strong just about everywhere and might still end up the nominee. We’ll just have to tune in again for the next chapter in our thrilling adventure yarn.
