Good googgley moogly at those ads.
Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) said she would support the GOP nominee. Her spokesperson confirmed after Trump was determined to be the presumptive nominee that she would support him.
And later she said, âI just love misogynistic candidates! Iâm a GOP womanâI love to be abused!â
Too harsh? I donât think so. I will never understand how any reasonably intelligent woman could happily support Trump.
Sen. Robert Portman (R-OH) said he would support the Republican nominee âunless something crazy happens.â
Uh, Rob? Something crazy just happened â Trump became your partyâs candidate. Itâs âshit or get off the potâ time.
Trumpâs bullying and piggish insults worked to perfection in the rough and tumble of the GOP primariesâŚwith 16 opponents to pick on, exchange tweets with and generally enjoy the elementary school kerfuffle he stirred up. That WILL NOT be the general election routine. Oh, he may try it, but the playing field is much different.
I cannot wait for the first presidential debate: No shouting and screaming howler monkeys and gaggles of Trumpets in the audience to feed his nonsense. He will stand there and be ~snicker!~ âpresidentialâ and be expected to answer, fully, the questions on domestic and foreign issues in polity and questions on very specific policies. And it would take years to prepare him even in the basics. Clinton, on the other hand, has those years and is more than capable of handling the most intricate issues of government.
Further, The Donaldâs opponents in the primaries were cowed and cowardly, and they were afraid to challenge himâŚand, for the most part, he skated by on intimidation and tweetsâŚand the expectation he would drop out. Now he will face what I can only imagine as a mountain, an onslaught of damning intel gathered by the Clinton machine ( in addition to the voluminous amount of ammunition he has provided to the Clinton campaign in his words and deeds leading up to this point) and it will all be used. With a gleeful team of researchers, operatives who have been working for many months, it will be scathing.
Hillary Clinton has had many trials by fire in her 4-decades-long political journey, and she can handle The DonaldâŚI have no doubts. Trump will come to understand what âthe gloves come offâ really means now
Sara left out a big one:Charlie Baker, Republican governor of Massachusetts, today reiterated his pledge made a few months back: He will not vote for Donald Trump.
Youâre looking at this backwards. Trump is the Presidential nominee for the Republicans, picked by them and now the defacto leader of the Republican party which for decades now has stood for all things Conservative. ALL CONSERVATIVES ENDORSE TRUMP, until they explicity say they do not endorse Trump.
All those GOP cowards will break down and fall in line by the convention.
There wasnât even one Republican brave enough to stand up to Sarah Palin. Why would any of them do it now when Trump is sure to sue them for some trumped up charges of defamation, slander or collusionâŚand make them burn through their life savings to defend themselves?
Trump will tell all the old white conservative males in the GOP to put on high heels and do their best imitation of drag queens in a chorus line at the conventionâŚand they better dance to his tune. Christie and Giuliani are already well practiced.
Canât you hear Trump playing Ravelâs La Valse even now?
Sure unlimited money in politics wonât be a game changer. A billionaire could never just walk into a primary and buy a nomination. Never would ever happen. But it didâŚin the very first election after the Citizens United decision corrupted the entire election process.
Not current office holders, butâŚ
Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) on the tweeterbox:
â1/3: I always said I would support the nominee and itâs clear @realDonaldTrump has won the #Republican Presidential Primary.â
â2/3: I look forward to working with Mr. Trump at the top of the ticket and to maintaining a #GOP Senate.â
So file under âsupport the nomineeâ.
Gov. Phil Bryant (R-MS), under âEndorse Trumpâ
âI will support Donald Trump to stop Hillary Clinton from becoming president of these United States. He now has the responsibility and certainly the ability to unite this Grand Old Party and go on to victory. As a conservative, I will find common cause in this election because the possibility of a Clinton victory is unacceptable. We now join together,â said Bryant in a statement.
LePage and Scott endorsed Trump quite a while ago.
She was, after all, not at the top of the ticket. Trump is. And there are quite a few vulnerable GOPers up for reelection. I too think most will fall in line in the end, but donât think all.
And Profile in Courage Ron Johnson is lining up:
So unreal it is painful. Whatever the lesson becomes, this time there is no denial. Haha.
I think that like us, they do think of the stakes, namely SCOTUS and other key administration positions. That can make it easier for them to justify supporting Hitler. Disgusting, yes, but still makes sense as long as the calculation of vested interests goes.
Meanwhile the stakes for those up for reelection is, well, reelection. In that case supporting Hitler cannot be justified.
I guess self-preservation is all thatâs at work.
They will all come around to Trump. Only Flake has given a clear ânoâ.
The Republican primary, and Trump in particular, has done wonders to expose the party ideology and confirm for all to see that itâs party before country.
Did you watch this? Go to the tweet and see her ad vid. A powerful (and scary) one. She really is wasting no time and it convinces me she is not just fighting for Presidency, she is fighting for the Senate.
edit: my grammar always sucks
Thomas Frank in the Guardian and elsewhere yesterday:
Trump isâŚa bigot of such pungent vileness that the victory of the Democratic candidate this fall is virtually assured. Absent some terrorist attack ⌠or some FBI action on the Clinton email scandal ⌠or some outrageous act of reasonableness by Trump himself, the blowhard is going to lose.
This could be a very dull general election cycle unless Trumpâs people get into extreme makeover mode immediately. Heâs not been in political office, so it is kind of an interesting tabula rasa with an established reality show brand. He could actually tack to the left of Hillary on healthcare and banking sector reform. I wouldnât expect much for workers other than nativist anti-furriner talk.
