Discussion: TPM's Elected Official Trump Endorsement Scorecard

No - Charlie Baker has twice given a clear “no”.

Rep Gov Baker from Massachusetts is a no. http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2016/05/04/gov-baker-says-wont-support-trump-admits-odd

The thought struck me though that is a “pro-Trump ad” for his supporters. That scared the crap outta me, even though I know she is not talking to his audience :scream:

By election day each of them will have come up with some convoluted rationalization for why they will now say that they will cast a vote for Trump.

The tweeted vid won’t play natively on a iPhone. What’s it say/show?

Unlike the first one (Josh posted on the front) which is a collection of GOPers (edited to add: other pres candidates and Mitt) trash talking of Trump, the one upthread is a collection of all pieces of crap from Trump himself (answering to her tweet "The Republican Party is now the party of Trump. Here’s what it stands for). Like Mexican criminals and rapists, ban Muslims, the Islamic State, punish women for abortion, might nuke Europe, insulting people with disabilities, and on and on. You should watch it as soon as you get the chance. The beauty is she explicitly ties all these with the GOP as a whole (“The GOP is the party of Trump”)… so it’s also her fight for the Senate.

Any word from that douchenozzle Pat Toomey (R-Club for Growth)?

It’s possible, just possible, that the BushClan didn’t appreciate Trump’s bloviating about the Twin Towers…

Trump has made no friends and isn’t likely to anytime soon.

Because she desperately doesn’t want to have to go get a real job.

He could turn out to be black. He could turn out to be gay. He could turn out to be a Democrat.

Other than that? Nothing.

GOP elected women supporting Trump…absolutely no principles or values…just ‘good Germans’ following their fascist leader. Wow…

Yeah, the news didn’t surprise me at all.

And I’d bet my money Laura will vote for Hillary… she did signal it.

Can anyone with future presidential ambitions endorse Trump? After his landslide loss this fall, he will be Dead Man Walking to the GOP. People like Sasse could be the principled leader who refused to follow the mis-leader over a cliff in 2016 – sort of like how Obama’s opposition to the Iraq War was his ticket to the Demo nomination in 2008.

It is helpful to realize that many of those who said they would never support Trump after he made some outrageous statement or other were saying that because they expected a huge backlash and wanted to get on the “right” side of it. Now that they see The Donald Drumpf can say shit they were thinking all along and get away with it, they’re all looking to walk back their statements and get on Benito Drumpf’s on-time train to oblivion.

I agree, but I think the point about Citizens United is off base. So far the corporate money--that is, referring to the corporate form of ownership, not the more common "big business" connotation--has not dominated. The Kochs are going down-ballot. Bernie got a lot of staying power out of small donations. Trump got a ton of free publicity for his screeds and soft treatment by the media.
What you said might become more applicable as the election proceeds, though.

Proposing a tax plan that actually increased taxes on the .1% rather than claiming his plan does so when in fact it cuts them?

Des Moines Register reported this a.m. that Steve King will support Trump:

“Four of the five members of Iowa’s Republican Congressional delegation — Sen. Joni Ernst, Sen. Chuck Grassley, Rep. Steve King and Rep. David Young — reaffirmed Wednesday they would support Trump as the party’s nominee. So did Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds. Rep. Rod Blum, R-Dubuque, did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Register.”

Blum is up for reelection in IA Dist. 1, winning by 2.3% in his first election 2yrs ago. He was leading Dem challengers by 12% a month ago.

A lot of these statements convey mixed messages. If a person says “I support Trump, he says a lot of things I agree with, he really speaks for people disillusioned with our political system, but I won’t endorse him, and I don’t like his slurs against Mexicans and Muslims or his wall idea, and I might endorse a third candidate instead”, then I would assign this statement a score of 1+1+1-1-1-1-1-1=-2 and interpret the result as a net 2 for Hillary.

Mark the 2 Bushes down as, “Mums the word.”

I’d like to see a spreadsheet of all. 5 columns for each category, one row for each politico. Dates inside each cell to indicate the transitions between different categories.

As in ALL THINGS, just “Follow the Money”.
That answers your question.
