Discussion: Top Trump Aide Rick Dearborn To Leave White House Early Next Year

Dearborn told friends that he saw the Republican tax overhaul that cleared Congress on Wednesday as his cue to leave.

I bet he did.

There will be quite a few more departures from the White House - some voluntary, some brought on by Mueller’s investigation and related legal problems. Stephen Miller’s departure can’t come soon enough.

To all media: we know there will be an exodus of Trump staffers as the one year mark approaches. Could you be so kind as to differentiate between those who leave merely in shame versus those who leave in handcuffs? Thank-you.

There are other categories. Dearborn, for example, is simply cashing out.

Most of those departing can quadruple their government salaries in the private sector, and not answer to L’enfant Orange while doing it.

Maybe so. But if you worked for Trump at a high level, well sorry, you can’t escape that taint. Because you know who he is and what he’s done.

Dearborn is knee deep in Russia contacts especially during the spring/summer of 2016 and was also on the Transition team before becoming the Deputy Chief of Staff. He is on a lot of Russia related email threads. He is close to events that stretch from the campaign into the WH. It’s a good bet that Mueller has talked to him and that he has been a cooperative witness.

Miller probably will not leave on his own volition.

He won’t be able to find anything crazier to work for. His career is over. From now on, It is all used car dealer marketing and late night suppository ads.

This is it, he is done, no more mountains of madness to climb.

Some missing important context on Dearborn’s involvement with Russia.

With the arrival of Kelly, I was surprised Amorosa lasted as long as she did, and I’m surprised Stephen Miller is still at the WH.

My guess is Miller will be leaving very soon. I always assumed Kelly was looking for a new job outside the WH to send him too and no one wanted him. Who in their right mind would want to supervise that nut?

It’s my understanding the Ambassador to Singapore may be open.

Sure.

I hadn’t meant to suggest that he is an innocent.

Eventually, there will be no one around to tell Trump where the light switches are.

I noticed that the statement stated that he served the Orange Menace “loyally.” Wouldn’t want to hurt his future employment/grifting opportunities.

If I had to guess, which I don’t, I’d think from what Kelly said this guy is super-conservative in the so-called “conservative” style of the day, but minimally competent and not entirely down with the worst traitorous and corrupt stuff that went on. Now, with one leg kicked out from under what he might have understood as “Big Government,” he cleans his desk and gets out.

Dina Powell, from what I’ve read, strikes me as even more a competent, basically decent person who thought that even if Trump was an evil clown she could serve and contribute, but eventually realized it was impossible.

And it seems remarkable how few people were able to square that circle, hold their noses and participate. I remember between the election and the inauguration there was a huge swathe of potential department leaders and so forth who said don’t bother calling, I’m not working for that guy. People we might oppose philosophically, might think were misguided and wrongheaded, but who’d show up and do a credible day’s work. There’s no way I know of to measure but the number of even minimally decent people who agreed to work for Trump seems low given the power and influence of the jobs on offer.

[/quote]And so many positions remain unfilled for the entire first year going into year two. People don’t want to work for a Trump administration and don’t want to work for the people he’s put in charge to drag down or close down the agencies. It’s all toxic.
