Discussion: Top GOPers: Sorry Trump, Flag Burning's Protected By The First Amendment

Remember the question Khizr Khan asked Trump at the Democratic convention? We now have an answer…HO has not read the Constitution. If he did, he does not understand it, or is not aware that there are more than a few amendments. Yet he will swear to “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” in January? Just another lie…

So if I burn an “American Flag” with 55 stars and 12 stripes I can get away with it? Or maybe one with 50 white dots instead of stars? Or one with purple stripes instead of blue?

I’ll be doing that all day long in front of the White House if Drumpf pushes this anti-Constitution bullshit.Tie up the Courts for years trying to decide what an American Flag actually is. Flags come and go, whether they get destroyed on the battlefield or through old age or if they get thrown out as little hand-outs at a football game.
In fact, proper disposal of tattered American flags is to destroy them by burning. That’s in the U.S. Flag Code (Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the United States Code (4 U.S.C. § 1 et seq).

Flags are just symbols. America is only as strong as we are. We should be stronger than a piece of cloth or paper.

Drumpf really is a fucking ignorant moron.

“Rep. Sean. Duffy (R-WI) said that “the court is probably right that we want to protect those people who want to protest, and their right to actually demonstrate with disgracing our flag, even though so many of us who love our country and love our flag object to it.””

I think people burn flags to point out that it has already been disgraced by the people they are protesting against. It is in fact simply calling a spade a spade.

Welcome to your new full time job, GOP… waking up every morning to walk back whatever crazy your party’s leader shat out on twitter that morning…

And when it happens, those minority communities will look at the rest of us and say: “what took you so long?”

They are willing to put up with it until they get their new Scalia and the other priorities that Ryan has laid out (getting rid of Medicare, privatizing Social Security, etc.)

Once they get those, I expect them to turn on Trump.

I’m more worried about his hands being on our currency, specifically from the US Treasury.

To clarify my comment above, it now appears that the first Nuremburg rally will be in Cincinnati this Thursday night.

Watch the rhetoric. Watch where he coops up the press and what he says about them, and how they cover it.

“It Can’t Happen Here” is not a self-executing proposition.

You mean the T notes and bills he is going to default on? hahaha

I don’t expect them to start being concerned about double standards any time soon.

I remember after 9/11 all the cars driving around with flags attached. Of course, the flags soon ended up in the street.

My son the Eagle Scout would go out and pick up those flags, then would take them to his scout meetings where the flags would eventually end up being properly dismantled (there are rules here too) and eventually burned.

I wish those who so enthusiastically champion the flag (i.e. wrap themselves in it) would treat the flag so lovingly as my son did and still does.

Well…trump does have a special relationship with the flag…apparently flag humping is okey-dokey.

After being mauled…the flag would probably welcome a nice cleansing flame.

Yeah, see the rightwing has beaten us like a broken drum because they don’t care. They don’t care about being consistent, they don’t care about their own hypocrisy, lies, or fictions - they just do it and win.

We care too much. We do that because we have a more elevated view of humanity than the rightwing does and it sure hurts when humanity decides to be as lazy and stupid and mean and violent as the rightwing thinks it is and treats it that way.

It’s the pile-on strategy…just keep throwing the crazy 'cause at a certain point calling them out is overwhelming. AND his short attention span crowd is incapable of focusing on the months and years of trump’s inconsistent blatherings and tweets.
