Discussion: Tom Cole: Trump's Proposed Cuts To NIH, CDC Are 'Short-Sighted'

The US currently spends more on "defense’ than the next 7 countries (China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, UK, India, France and Japan) COMBINED https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures . And he wants to increase that? Ridiculous!!!

Republicans are opposed to “throwing money” at problems, unless of course it’s the military. Then more money is always good.

Run that by me again.

Umm, there is an invisible hand with an invisible mop, broom and air purifier thingy that magically, behind the scenes and under the radar does all the house cleaning.

After the corps and our fearless leaders wash all of their ill-gotten funds in our lakes and rivers they just add bleach to sanitize the whole deal and voila!

Well, you live in that crapsack Oklahoma, so go frack yourself, dood.

Is it just me or is the ‘short-sighted’ comment a dig at Trouncy’s little parts?

A dude with short fingers and all that inevitably goes with that is surely going to also be ‘short’ sighted.

As effing outrageous as it is, I think we may be going through all of this because Trounce has a little dick.
Give this fool an addadictomy stat and we may all get to still have a few nice things.

I think this might be the case. He’s a real estate schmuck. The house is worth $1 million, so you ask for $3 million and then end up getting $2 million. And with him, you still fuck it up.

Actually, change dumbest to most controversial, and you pretty much nailed what is happening.

This is the pattern of the White House when something goes bad. Put something even more controversial out there. I know, I know…we have discussed this many times, and its exactly the same pattern he used during the campaign…a press corps with ADHD can’t resist the cry of “SQUIRREL!”.

And dammit, it keeps working. Lets review his less than 2 months in the White House. By any measure, its been a colossal disaster. From having his executive order slapped down by the Courts, to his Natl. Security Adviser being forced to resign because of ties to Russia, to his AG committing perjury and being forced to recuse himself, to the first big legislative initiative falling apart at the seams before it even gets out of the House, to false claims of being spied upon by his predecessor, to his Press Secretary destroying all his credibility with bald false lies…I could go on and on.

AND ITS NOT EVEN TWO MONTHS IN!!

So they toss out a highly controversial budget (lets face it…there is absolutely no reason to make Meals on Wheels a target except to cause controversy), and…voila! Distracted again. And each time they cause a distraction, the press rewards them by treating them with even more legitimacy.

Quite frankly, every major outlet should be harping on these accumulating failures, but instead, they treat each squirrel hunt as something unique and discrete and as completely legitimate. The only legitimate stories are…Russian ties and the efforts by his administration to lie and cover them up (which are on going as I type this), massive conflicts of interests and repeated violations of the Constitution. And I suppose we could toss in the astounding levels of incompetence.

Exactly right. 90% of NIH research budget is awarded to colleges and universities in EVERY congressional district. Even if you don’t give a damn about research, it’s an economic issue.

We are no longer drinking from just one fire hose.

You’re right, of course, but what purpose does it all serve? With Republicans in charge of Congress getting most of your agenda through should be a piece of cake. W got his 1st term agenda through by doing next to nothing. Obama got a good chunk of his without making a fool of himself. I simply don’t see the payoff here.

Good summary of what’s in this DOA budget from Comrade Crazy:

So…you’re worried about a pandemic but the ‘average’ person won’t have any health insurance to combat it? There won’t be any clinics to GO to, to HELP people from spreading it to you elites that will HAVE government insurance?

Because previous presidents (like…ALL of them) have always had an actual agenda for the country. Even republicans who we strongly disagree with, wanted to get republican agendas done.

That’s not the case with Trump. His agenda is about Trump, and nothing more. The heart of the Russia contacts scandal? Getting Trump elected. His stance on the the healthcare bill? Stand offish until he can see how it affects him in the polls…particularly with his supporters. Blatant lies about Obama? To garner sympathy since he is the victim (indeed, that theme seems to the be the central theme they are pushing with all of these Russian ties…they are the ones actually wronged).

Its all about keeping people talking about HIM. Because he ego demands it. And when a story starts making him look bad, toss out another one…so we keep talking about HIM, until that one sours. Then there will be another squirrel.

The agenda is Trump, full stop. Everyone else and everything else are merely extras and props for his own personal drama. This IS how people with NPD are. And it won’t change until the press starts kicking his ass on EVERY new squirrel as soon as he tosses it out there. “No, that’s bullshit Mr. President…why were you and your aides talking to Russians on this date, and what was discussed?”

I want Ernie on Machine gun.

But you know there’s a part of me that asks, “Why DIDN’T the Feds have a wiretap on Trump?” He’s a crook involved in multiple scams, shouldn’t he be under investigation? And if not the Fed’s, then the NY AG. Spitzer should have been on him from way back when.
