If you consciously set out to design the dumbest possible budget, you couldn’t have done as badly as Trump.
Trump: More diseases mean fewer moochers, especially in OK.
“I don’t favor cutting NIH or Centers for Disease Control. You’re much
more likely to die in a pandemic than a terrorist attack, and so that’s
part of the defense of the country as well,” Cole said on MSNBC’s
“Morning Joe.”
Something sane came out of the mouth of a Republican for Oklahoma?
The congressman said that he supported Trump’s pitch to boost military
spending, but said that the administration needs to be willing to make
cuts to programs like Medicare and Social Security.
Never mind, I spoke too soon.
Never forget: When Republicans say “entitlement reform,” what they really mean is slashing Grandma’s Social Security check and her Medicare coverage. (And yours, too, if climate change and epidemics don’t kill you first.)
How about we cut military spending and secure medicare and social security?
If the Pentagon’s budget is increased by $54 billion it will, if nothing else, ensure that there will plenty of shiny new armaments to protect the cemeteries the rest of the budget will create. It’s a brilliant strategy.
Fun Fact: To date the Department of Defense, which has never successfully passed an audit, can’t account $5.4 trillion.
When Tom Cole is the voice of reason…
Trump is an empty suit whose only priority is his own self-glorification. This budget is a product of his crazed agenda minions and sycophants that Trump thinks will make him look good.
Face it, the one area Trump truly excels is in being both dumb and clueless. He has an astronomically high C2A (confidence to ability) ratio the likes of which we should hope to never see again.
Looks like Big Bird can save PBS if he simply joins the Marines.
GOPer’s actual theme song…
He wants to reform entitlements. Me too. Corporations receive more of it than people do. Lots more.
The more I’ve thought about this ridiculous budget, the more I’ve come to believe that this is supposed to demonstrate that PeePee is the “greatest negotiator who ever lived or ever will live”. He starts with a proposal that includes draconian cuts and then appears reluctantly willing to dial back on a few of the most egregious cuts to look “reasonable” when his real goal is to ram thru more money for the military and massive cuts in regulations that will help his oil/gas buddies.
Someone needs to look into just how much his shell corps have bought up stocks in defense contractors and Exxon/Mobile. Because, with PeePee, it’s always about personal financial gain.
Repub-splain to me how we can have clean water and air without regulation.
You’ve lost Oklahoma ON YOUR EPA CUTS, Trumpp?
That’s superhuman.
Liberals just don’t understand industrial ecology.
We all like cleanup programs. Cleanup is good. Cleanup brings clean air and clean soil and clean water. But how can cleanup programs survive without a food source? Regulations kill the pollution, so the cleanup programs die off and we don’t get clean air and clean soil and clean water anymore.
I thought liberals were supposed to understand science.
Good on him for the funding of NIH and CDC. First off America’s Biomedical research is second to none and to diminish that is not making america great. NIH primarily funds extramural grants meaning that the grants go to scientists at a variety of Universities, Medical Centers and Research Institutes. Loss of a grant often means loss of a job for the scientist as the Universities and Medical Centers are particularly cash strapped these days. Thus, just cutting NIH funding for a couple of years destroys the research infrastructure and cannot be easily undone when funding resumes.
As for Social Security, that is in a trust fund that you have borrowed against to fund your Tax Cuts and oil wars. Here’s a hint the trust fund is backed by the US government and if you borrowed against it to fund tax cuts then the tax cuts need to be undone to remove those liens.
Elections are disproportionately affected by short-term BS. Remember the Ebola freakout? Now imagine being an incumbent after voting to cut the NIH and CDC. I mean, I’m glad there’s someone sane enough to resist this madness, but I’m not fooling myself into believing it’s anything other than politics.
@tiowally I know from a reliable source that DoD is incapable of ever passing an audit. It’s the one exception to running government like a business.
And how can the cleanup companies make a profit if the government if the regulations work?
