Discussion: Tom Coburn: I Don't Believe There Should Be A National Minimum Wage

Over they years I’ve found that physicians can be terribly arrogant, socially and politically ignorant. This guy, as I recall, is an ob/gyn who is doesn’t think women should have any say over their bodies.
That makes him a closet sadist, too.

Fuck the poors, eh, Tom?

I’m sure he has no problem with the $470 Billion that Big Oil has been handed in subsidies over the last 100 years.

Luckily, our regulations system is not bound to abide by Coburn’s beliefs…

If the economic and social justifications for raising the minimum wage were unsubstantiated or on flaky grounds, one could understand someone’s resistance to raising it, but his resistance and that of other GOPers can only be ideological or venal – that is, his vote is bought and paid for.

“It goes against the free market principle.”

Absolutely true, but so what? The very existence of government goes against the free market principle. It’s one of the major justifications for having a govt.

“good economic models”. Notice he does not say American Enterprise Institute or Heritage Foundation which is exactly what he means.

Coburn must speak for the large majority of the people of his state; about “thinking” that is.

Dear Jim,
Smack snarkmeter with rock.

Without a minimum wage, we could finally pay the serfs whatever the fuck we thought they deserved that day.

And if they broke a window tomorrow, that pay could be slashed in half and they could be made to pay restitution for it!

Then, once they started aging and slowing down, we could ship them off to the glue factory for some cases of whiskey as well.

Hell, why do we even bother with this “republic” thing…why can’t we have them call us m’Lord and otherwise stay silent unless spoken to?

Many do not believe there should be moronic do nothing Senators that abrogate their responsibilities of ensuring Americas future and use their influence to make millions in office either…yet there they are…wasting our time and money when they do decide to show up for work.

Minimum wage has been shown to encourage lazy behavior and to prevent the job creators from thriving. Not only should the federal wage be repealed since it is unconstitutional under the Tenth amendmant, maybe it’s time to use Oklahoma’s idea. If Congress enacts a Constitutional amendmant preventing states from having a minimum wage, think of the jobs that will be created and the people who will discover the dignity of hard work.

Pure, unmitigated bullshit.

Well, if they worked harder, they wouldn’t have that problem.

By the way, there are 52 weeks in a year! Why should they get 2 “free” weeks on their owner’s dime? That’s not how the free market is supposed to work.

“Coburn was asked whether he thought the current minimum wage of $7.25 was sufficient.”

And of course he dodged the question - because he KNOWS it’s not sufficient.

I can only wonder how long will the Republican Party last, given their absolute hatred for the middle and lower classes.

“Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plains…”

I would also add “meme”.

The Republican Party dies when our Republic shall die - which is not a comforting thought any way you parse it.

Is it just me, or does having a doctor say, “It’s an unfortunate thing, but any time you’re doing something with a body, things can go wrong,” sound unreassuring?

Senator Coburn should support public executions, where the deterrent capability of capital punishment achieves its maximum reach. Take the executions from behind the concrete blocks, from behind the thick glass windows onto the chamber and put them out in public. Now.
