That was my thought. These are homeless people with kids. Probably one of the few people I see truly needing a gun for safety.

It amazes me that people are still allowed to go into a store and buy a gun without having any formal certified firearms training… This is just fucking crazy…

Leaving a handgun with a round chambered, safety off, and reachable by a 3-year-old-- is definitely a 3-strikes scenario.
I’m happy both parents are still alive-- but just as pleased that both will carry a reminder of their stupidity for the remainder of their lives.

When are people going to stop calling these incidents accidents? A couple of weeks ago, a two year old took his mother’s gun out of her purse in a Walmart and killed her with a single shot. The local news and papers were full of articles in support of the family calling that an accident as well. These are not accidents. When you are so negligent with a firearm around children, you are willfully setting up a scenario for a shooting. I hope the children are not just temporarily removed from their parents, but placed somewhere longer term where more intelligent heads prevail.

I feel very badly for the children. I am also sorry that the parents are struggling with hard times. Children are challenging to raise in the best of circumstances. These parents don’t need a gun so much as they need condoms, Norplant, birth control pills, a diaphragm…something to keep them from cranking out more babies when they cannot adequately care for the ones they already have.

They could also use some advice on birth control. They’ve got a 3 yr old, a 2 yr. old, and another due any day now. I do feel for them, but this is something they could get a handle on.
