Why was there a round chambered?
Was there that much threat perceived in that motel that they needed arms but it never occurred to find other lodgings?

Off all the âaccidentalâ shooting incidents involving family members, I think my heart breaks most at the thought of the what toddler who killed his mom with her gun from her handbag, not Googling, think it was Walmart or someplace like that, will experience later. Poor kid.
Not sure that New Mexico and affordable access to birth control are compatible, in fact they may be mutually exclusive.

"The woman told police she purchased the gun the day before the incident, Drobik said. The man is not legally allowed to have a firearm because he has previously been convicted of a felony crime.
The family, including a two-year-old girl and the childrenâs grandmother, had been living in an Americaâs Best Value Inn for about a week with their two pit bulls when the incident occurred."

The only upside to this story is that there were no fatalities. Otherwise it is a sad microcosm of American culture. And it gives the world at large an unhealthy view of life in the United States:
- to live ⌠to keep and possibly remember (but probably neglect) to pack, towards a day when a highly improbable event might occur where some actual thrid party âbad guy(s)â appear to threaten to relieve them of whatever property theyâve hoarded in that motel room (right, cuz âbad guysâ know single pregnant moms with two toddlers are a reliable source of hoarded wealth) one of the adults might have the gun handy to respond in an effective rational safe trained way, or in preparation for the coming zombia apocalypse, but more likely to say to yourselves you have but not tell anyone else and neglect to train with, service, clean or keep it secure from being stolen or come across by one of the toddlers, which last is by may standard deviations the more statistically likely since Nature provides toddlers with a survival instinct towards exploration, discovery and trying out stuff within their own territory.
This is like if a pride of feral hogs took up residence next to a snake pit near an abandoned mining operation where hundreds of pounds of weeping dynamite and unsecured nitro was just laying around.

Just think that if the mother had been carrying at the same time, she could have used it against the son and claimed the stand your ground defense law. Only a good person with a gun can stop a bad person with a gun.
The only way to stop a bad baby with a gun is a good baby with a gun.
What the hell is the matter with people leaving their unsecured guns within reach of children?
I think the two pit=bulls and a mother in law make the gun unneeded.

Guns could be designed to make it harder for young kids and other unauthorized users to fire. The NRA fights hard to prevent such designs from being required by law or even to reach the market.
