Discussion for article #236691

So they’ve known about this since 2007 and they are just canceling the show now? WTF

You can’t make this kind of stuff up:

Jim Bob Duggar said he disciplined his son and took him a year later with church elders to meet with a state trooper and family friend, Jim Hutchens, who gave the teen a “very stern talk” but did not take any official action.

Hutchens is currently serving a 56-year sentence for child pornography.

The good news is that given their television commitments have vanished, they now have ample time to hit the campaign trail to support their candidates for 2016.

Waiting for the victimization claims from the RW. I feel sorry for the kids. Their repressive, hyper-religious evangelical upbringing won’t prepare them for the realities of modern sectarian society. Some of these kids are going to have a very difficult time adjusting as adults. The parents are teaching that the crimes of child molestation can be wiped away with prayer…that the family is brought even closer together through prayer. Where was their God while the the little girls were being violated?

Incest…a game the whole family can play. What a fucking mess.

But the show is still on the God Network, judging from the reaction of some of Duggar’s Groupies. Take a look:

Stephanie Truesdale:
“This shouldnt even be in the news. Its not current. Its done, over, and hes been forgiven.
None of us, as fans/viewers, whatever, have any need to say anything. It was
reported, and its been handeled. Its over.”

Amy Blaydes Wilson
“Give them a break, He was a child himself. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is how you deal with it
that makes you better or worse. They are human. We all are human.”

Leah Maxwell McCool
“Love y’all and Josh I admire you for admitting to your parents and getting help and again admitting
it to Anna before you got married,”

Amy McGarvey
“Love the whole duggar family you are so blessed!!!”

Angela-Angie Nicolas Long
“Everyone makes mistakes but our God is a forgiving God. When we ask for forgiveness, he forgives us. He died on the cross not only for sins of that time but for future sins as well. Keep your head up and remember whose you are. :)”

Kristy Marie
“Um. Really? I can totally understand what happened, Not excusing doing it without consent, but, teenage boys are curious. How many of you messed along & experimented before 18? Before marriage. Glass houses
people…”

Jefanda Ward
“It’s the contrast of who we are today verses yesterday that sets Christians apart. I’m so glad I serve a God who saves me because of who He is in spite of who I am. Praying for you Josh, He will keep you.”

Rachel Hayes Quinn
“We are all good for nothing low life sinners that’s all we will ever be saved by the grace of god! Everyone makes mistakes and thank God for his forgiveness and for washing away our sins! You owned up to your actions payed for your mistakes and came to know the Lord as your savior that’s an amazing girl testimony not that your proud of your action but you overcame by the power of the blood and the word of your testimony. Praying for your family as you all receive harsh judgement and are being called hypocrites keep your head up. I would allow my future kids to stay with you and your wife anyday bc through the show yalls light really shines through and I can tell what a awesome family you all are mistakes and all we are all human.”

Laura Loftiss
“God forgives all who admit their sins!”

Some years back, there was a pastor who screwed one of his parishioners because he said her vagina had a ‘lesbian demon’ inside it that could only be driven out by his penis. You cannot make this shit up. He boned her twice before she caught on. I was thinking, “Aw c’mon. Who’s THAT stupid?”

Guess I know now.

“I used to be High on Drugs. Now I’m High on the Lord.”

l wonder how many other putrid sexual predators Family Research Council President Tony Perkins is hiding under that little tent of his. You can bet your ass there are MORE…
More often than not, these problems don’t just pop up with kids. They do what they learn from family or someone close to the family. What is going on here Jim Bob? You are supposed to take care of your kids. Or…is this something you were taught?
This is how Jim Bob took care of this, aaaa, problem:
Jim Bob sent Josh to a Christian counseling program to cure him of whatever was driving his abusive behavior.
??Who?? ”A guy they know in Little Rock that is remodeling a building."
Jim Bob along with a group of church elders took Josh to talk to State Trooper, Jim Hutchens, a personal friend of Jim Bob’s, is now serving hard time on child pornography charges.
And now here comes Mike Huckabee and the rest of the right wing christians…
???and for what???
FORGIVNESS

Hello, this is Michelle Duggar. I’m calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children. The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes, I said men – to use women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child. Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area?

Bitch, please!

The only way those addle-brained christianists would get upset is if Josh had diddled his brothers

There’s a deep chasm in perspectives demonstrated by Duggar family words and, well, the rest of us. The god-talk extends all kinds of benefits — if you’re a fellow god-talker. But once you remove them, The Words According To Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar read so hollow. Taking responsibility? Admitting wrong? Apologizing? Not really. Not in a way that matches the events as described elsewhere.

Statement with slight edits (original is below. Source: Josh Marshall’s post):

The parents statement (source: Josh’s post)

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives,” Jim Bob, 49, and Michelle, 48, said in a joint statement. “When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That [was a ] dark and difficult time. […]”

Their statement continues, “we would never choose to go through something so terrible […]. We [acknowledge] that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much […]. We hope somehow the story of our journey – the good times and the difficult times – cause you to […acknowledge some lessons…].”

Unsatisfying. Does not address the damage done. Does not address their actions and response.

Original (again, source Josh Marshall:

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives,” Jim Bob, 49, and Michelle, 48, said in a joint statement. “When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.”

Their statement continues, “Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey – the good times and the difficult times – cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything.”

They don’t seem to be as forgiving of juvenile rap sheets when the person is black and later shot by police, do they?

Duggar added that he “understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”

HIS LIFE. No concern about his victims’ lives.

This happened in 2003. From 1999-2002, Jim Bob was a state rep. He was vice chair of the House Corrections and Criminal Law Subcommittee. Wonder how many favors he called in?
