Discussion: Timeline Set For Trump's Sketchy Voter Fraud Commission

This is how they try to cheat democracy and stay in power in 2018 and beyond.

Despite the multiple investigations going on, the most important thing for our country now is Democrats retaking the House in 2018. If we fail to do that, things could get very dire.

And this commission is the top threat to that goal, IMO. Its sole purpose is to find ways to prevent Democrats from voting, especially dark-skinned and lower-income Democrats.

This guy is one of the typical useful idiot true believers that the GOP seems to have in abundance these days. Where the hell do they come from? - is this what you get when you are raised on a steady diet of FOX news and the Republican leadership of the last 40 years? I have a hard time figuring these guys out - their insanity approaches religious fervor on most issues in the public square, it has nothing to do with normal governance and compromise. Is it ideology or money?

I agree with the previous posters - there is nothing more dangerous to our democracy going on right now, even with Trump as president.

Kobach is a White Supremacist, it’s as simple as that. He has made it his life’s work to limit the vote among minorities. He carries the torch for those who came before him – the poll taxers, lynchers, intimidators, and Confederates. He is a truly evil man, like his bosses, and should be treated like we treat David Duke or Louis Farrakhan.

I think we need to get to the bottom of these voting irregularities and fraud and put a stop to them.

How else could a man who is functionally illiterate be put in the White House in the 21st century? Fraud is the only possible explanation.

Good to see that they’re on it. I’m sure nothing but good things will come of this.

We’re not a complete autocracy…yet.

In a perverse way, we should count ourselves lucky that Trump is as terrible as he is. Think of what it has taken to get us to this point — his Twitter addiction, his bizarre loyalty to Flynn and affection for Putin, the raw exploitation of his office to enrich his family, the business dealings, whatever they were, he’s evidently trying to cover up by refusing to release his taxes.

The point is that given the character of the Republican Party, we’d be well on the way to autocracy if the man in the White House had even slightly more self-control. Trump may have done himself in; but it can still happen here.

We already have several investigations of “election integrity” underway, including one being run by a special prosecutor.

Yeah Donald needs some busy work to do to keep his mind off his demise.

so the ‘timeline’ is set in time to be able to start leaking made up phony ‘details’ of already scripted voting outrages in time for Republican controlled legislatures to pass voter restrictions in time to affect the 2018 elections?

am I missing anything?

Dems should retaliate by ending tax exemption for churches. Or at least begin talking about it.

Democrats you better get tough and do something real if you ever get the power to, do everything you can to neuter GOP political power. Churches are a part of it, the money churches spend on charitable works is dwarfed by the amount of money churches spend on business and political interests. This political power is used against us every election cycle.

I don’t see this commission as such a bad thing, even while recognizing fully that Kobach is a snake with his mind already made up. Rumors of voter fraud have already led to damaging and probably decisive voter purges, and the more that actual data is spotlighted the more that opponents can engage, even up to the Supreme Court level. The effort itself should force some degree of “put up or shut up,” so the lack of evidence should be exposed.

If Kobach only able to match his Kansas performance where he found in-person fraud in the single digits, does the voter purge movement really benefit?

So far Kobach has bagged nine elderly Republicans with vacation homes in Colorado for voting in local elections in both states. Frog-marching all the elderly Republican evil doers could make for great TV.

Yes, and Trump’s terribleness may have saved Holland and France from electing Nazis.

German elections coming up next…

You’re acting as if the commission will issue a report that doesn’t support its agenda. They’ll leak a bunch of unsubstantiated horror stories and then ask for more time to produce the final report.

How or why the Supreme Court has not put a stop to the un-American voter suppression “laws” will go down in history as a huge shame on the nation. 200,000 people in Wisconsin had their rights stripped. Don the Con won by 20,000. Disgusting.

Yes; start with how all these new restrictions pushed by ALEC and adopted by GOP-run states have resulted in the disenfranchisement of millions of voters in states that went for Little Donnie.

5:4; I win. That was Scalia’s goal, likely will be Alito’s, maybe even Gorsuch’s too.

Some of the judges I give credit (!) for merely being out of touch and credulous. It’s hard for a middle-aged or older rich white man who has never worked day-to-day to wrap their head around the notion that crucial documents might be hard to get, and it’s hard for judges to approach legislation suspiciously, starting from the notion that some law was passed for a purpose that violates the oath of office taken by every legislator who voted for it. So their deep indoctrination in establishment thinking leads them to pernicious conclusions. (Wasn’t it Posner who said not that long ago that he was naive when he wrote the appellate opinion upholding an early voter ID law?)

Some of them. Others are unashamed partisan who think that members of other groups have no more right to vote than members of other religions have to free exercise.

We have to pay for this guy but don’t get to pay for the EPA. I hate these people but this is what it looks like just before this crap dies out forever
