Voluntaring to go to door to door is also effective. Campaigns spend money to organize to get people to do that.
There may be special restrictions on helicopters in DC too. The event was certainly covered. Many things deserve more coverage, but typically theyâre slow processes or people quietly doing important stuff.
Itâs called âopen carry.â Legal in lots of places. They do it ostensibly to make people aware that guns are just âobjectsâ and not scary. There may be other, less benign reasons they do it. Most gun enthusiasts including the NRA try to discourage it.
Iâm hoping there will be a good turnout in Chicago. I think we had the highest or one of the highest for the last Womenâs March.
Unless the kids who want change with respect to our gun laws can out donate the NRA to members of Congress, those members wonât give a shit. Itâs all about donations. Filthy lucre could buy lives. That is a sad and ugly truth. The members should care enough to listen to the 90% who want gun laws to change but they donât care. Not really. They just want to get reelected. Doing whatâs clearly right is not important to them.
Thereâs a guy who visits our local supermarket and he packs this eenormous hogleg into the store habitually. When he shows up people tend to leave without their groceries⌠Iâve also heard rumors (rumors only) of some fellah who thinks it necessary to pack heat when retrieving mail from his curb side mail box. He is that afraid. Donât know how true that particular vignette is however.
This is ArizonaâŚwhere it is legal to open carry into a bar and get drunk and rowdy.
The state pistol is the .45 Colt âPeacemakerâ instituted two weeks after Gabby Giffords was severely wounded by a guy (Jared Loughner) packing a semi auto pistol with an extended magazine.
This must change.
Wish I was in DC, too. We made it for the massive Womenâs March and it was unforgettable. However we will be at our local March this morning. They are ALL OVER the country, people. Get out there, please. Make yourself part of the count.
Donations are mostly about getting re-elected. Person to person campaigning can counteract that. ( For some people, donations are about grifting.)
The lack of coverage for the massive Womenâs March was strange. Even here at TPM. I was surprised to see this piece on todayâs Marches. It almost seems like the âWomenâ part of the equation makes the difference.
They also have the ability to vote at age 18. Thatâs a big fucking deal.
Rallies are great but voting matters more. Voting wisely matters even more than that.
The participation of millennials thus far in special elections and in the VA/NJ elections wasnât that impressive. The womenâs march of 2017 served as a galvanizing starting point for women to get involved in politics and to embed the value of voting and participating in every election.
My hope is that the marches of this weekend push young people to up their game in terms of voter participation.
All this stuff the GOP does to restrict voting really doesnât have that much of an impact. It mainly hits at the margins and at people who donât vote regularly. If people just take the time to register and to vote regularly, the GOP canât stop you. Vote and vote wisely. Thatâs the only message that matters. No third party BS. No sanitizing Republicans because you think as a white person you can cut a deal with them because their excesses are reserved for people who donât like you. Vote Democratic. That is the only choice to save the Republic and to save lives.
Yes.
and from the dark side:
Tucker Carlson criticizes âextremistâ Parkland students calling for gun control
Bowing to the NRA overlords. No surprise. Vote the bastards out.
Justice Department cancels school safety studies after spending bill enacted

Looking at the crowd size on CNN was impressive just really impressive.
YOU GO YOUNG PEOPLE!!!
WOW!!
At least a half million minimum ⌠minimum in the crowd.
Dang
These kids give me hope and they will vote. They understand their potential and power.
And the sad fact is that unless those kids out donate the NRA to members of Congress those members will not listen to them. Upper most in any members mind is getting reelected. So they only react to money. Is it any wonder their approval numbers are around 15%?
Sick and disgustingly ugly but true.
I really admire those young people.
Because if age and infirmity I canât be there physically but I am there in spirit.
Iâd love to see an overhead shot to gauge crowd size.
edit
While giving her speech the kid just barfed out of stage fright. She said âI just barfed on national TV and it felt great.â You can feel that young ladyâs anger.
