“Only because health care’s complicated, which is why the approach of taking a step-by-step approach, no 2,000 page bill like Obamcare did, no do it in the middle of the night, which is what the Democrats did, but taking it step by step,” Brady said.
Of course, that’s not how it happened at all. I’m astonished at how many Republican Congressmen either weren’t alive in 2009 or are so senile that they can’t remember 2009.
Don’t you know facts and the truth means nothing to republicans
Lies, all lies. And of course the American public are a bunch of Goldfish that can’ even remember the freaking daily reports about the ACA fights and panels and what not. Nope, never happened.
Six years. Six goddam years they’ve been at this and only now do they begin to realize this shit’s complicated.
Of course it’s even harder still when you remain committed to the belief that policy-knowledge is a form of collaboration with evil.
They’re so all over the map at this point, I don’t even know what to think. So do they do some window dressing changes they can get Dems to sign on to and call it repeal and replace, or do they actually go through with repeal (which requires McConnell to roll six or seven of his members) and then either dawdle or coalesce around one of their plans that the Dems won’t support, and when they filibuster, walk away and shake their heads sadly. “We tried to give you healthcare, but the Dems wouldn’t let us.” Of course, that would still bite them in the ass because they own everything, and all those Trump voting ACA beneficiaries are paying attention now. But they might just do it all the same.
I don’t see any hope of them not repealing. They are crazed—you can see it. Also, there is an obvious dynamic that if repeal doesn’t happen right away, they might not do anything at all. They will grab the rope and pull, in my opinion.
Many of them are also wholly ignorant of how their lack of clarity will impact the insurance market as a whole. They seem to think that the hospital and insurance CEOs will prop things up magically until 4 Nov 2020.
…Republican leaders announcing this week they would unveil their plans for replacement much closer to the repeal process than first envisioned.
Here’s their “plans” in a nutshell: “Don’t get sick; if you do, die quickly.” As true now as when the words were first spoken. I do despair for the future of our Republic.
I really do not understand all this hand wringing by the republicans. They know that they will have to repeal ACA within days of Trump inauguration, they have no choice, it was a campaign promise, conservatives will be demanding it, dems will be daring them and the media will be laughing at them if they fail to do it.
So they might as well say: the government should be out of the medical coverage business (yeah right, Medicare, Medicaid, VA) and repeal it without any replacement, and let their surrogates try to blame Obama & Hillary. Their supporters will eat it all up.
Oh, they will repeal, or they will all be primaried from the right. They just wont replace it with anything, and hope that 20 million people don’t notice.
The Week Republicans Woke Up
Same week they showed they didn’t care …
It’s not just 20 million. It’s anyone who hits the cap on payout, or enters Medicare donut hole Hell. ACA helps everyone, in lots of ways, not just marketplace and Medicaid folks.
House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) told TPM that some members were surprised “a bit” by how complicated the process was.
“Only because health care’s complicated, which is why the approach of taking a step-by-step approach, no 2,000 page bill like Obamcare did, no do it in the middle of the night, which is what the Democrats did, but taking it step by step,” Brady said.
No shit, Sherlock – healthcare has always been complicated. That’s why it took many months of exhaustive back-and-forth to create and sign into law the ACA – NOT “in the middle of the night,” you fucker. Today’s GOP members are a special kind of hate. It’s getting more and more difficult to see them as fellow citizens, brothers, sisters, “friends” and neighbors.
Brain tumors are hilarious.
I wonder what percentage of people who have Obamacare health insurance plans and like them failed to show up to the polls or even voted for this devil? To all those Democrats that stayed home on election day I say: Screw you. You made this happen.
Sorry, those bastards governor are as guilty as everybody on whipping up the hatred to Obamacare. If the Congrescritters fail to repeal it all the way, they will get primaried in 2018. As for ACA beneficiaries in red states, most of them don’t vote GOP anyway (many don’t vote at all) and the ones that do would suffer in silence but will continue to vote republican anyway.
The GOP House now joins the GOP Senate in seeking to end the horrible status quo of over 20 million new Americans having health insurance. Time to fix that; if a few million die early, it’s FREEEDOM!
They are part of the resistance now for something that matters. They are reality and reason and have clout. That’s what matters most now.
Don’t let spite blind us.
