Shorter GOP: We love ObamaCare as it keeps getting us reelected. Why kill the cash cow?
When the hell did the GOP decide that an "increase the federal deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars. . . " was worth it for a base that for over 40 yrs has leaned on the idea that it is the party of fiscal conservatism? When does trashing the economy win with your base? When does actually creating death for Americans through lack of affordable access to healthcare and stripping the americans of health benefits win with your base? If this is the GOP, the 60 million who voted the GOP into control of 2 branches of our government, then this is a party made up mean americans who hate their fellow americans so much, they are willing to enact policies that will surely result in death or bankruptcy. There is no sugar coating this. Why does the GOP hate America so much?
To be fair, nobody knew shameless grandstanding could be so complicated.
Chickens. Home. Roost.
Here’s an idea: How about instead of cutting taxes on the wealthy, you increase them a little and use that money to reduce the impact of premium increases and deductibles on those that can’t afford them?
And how about expanding Medicaid in every state to drive down the uninsured numbers (and the higher premiums everyone else has to pay), instead of holding out on a political / ideological hissy fit? Most of the R plan to repeal and replace O’care was to punish states that expanded Medicaid (i.e., blue states) and to justify not taking the free federal money to provide coverage and care to more people.
And one more thing: How about for states are areas with rising premiums or fleeing insurers they allow the state itself or the federal government to sell insurance for existing programs such as Medicare, Medicaid or something new?
Finally got through to Moran’s office. Total backpedaling. Wouldn’t say anything about repeal and 2 yr delay. “There is no such bill.” blah blah blah. Total stonewalling. Sounds like he’ll be mum now and wait to see how the wind blows. If moderates kill repeal/2 yr option, he’s not on the hook with GOP voters for not repealing. If moderates fail to block McConnell’s stunt, he’ll probably vote for repeal and make noises after the fact about how he’s going to guarantee protections for pre-existing conditions in future legislation. I said to the woman if he votes to repeal with 2 yr delay, my healthcare disappears along with 10 mill people next year. No response to that. Sen. Moran is committed to protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions, but I can’t tell you what he would do about a possible amendment when he has no idea what that amendment will be. She got really snippy about it. Guess they are getting blowback today from both sides. He deserves it since he’s refusing to take a position again.
OK, plan C didn’t work.
How about plan D: kill all of the uninsured. No?
OK then, plan E: global thermonuclear war. If we blow up the world Obamacare blows up with it!
No? Really!?! Come on guys. How are we going to get rid of this bill if you don’t play along with anything?
That’s basically his thinking at this point; that maybe if he makes it worse it’ll come full circle and pass somehow. What a loser
If you "did not come to Washington to hurt people,” my God, why are you a Republican?
Repeal only won’t fly, so they’re gonna hafta try and, you know, actually try to write some bill that doesn’t throw millions of people off of insurance. It’s going to take a long time, impede work on other R priorities, be very messy, and be very repulsive to a large segment of their base and the oligarchs who pay the bills. You gotta love it.
Paul Ryan is PISSED. This was his moment to gut the social safety net, and now he gets to watch everything grind to a halt while he fends off calls to pass the Senate’s Russian sanctions package.
The Congressional Budget Office analysis of the 2015 repeal bill now under consideration found it would cause 32 million people to lose their insurance, hike premiums for millions more and increase the federal deficit by hundreds of billions of dollars.
Wow. This version sounds like a keeper.
How can they manage to pick a course of action even worse than the ones they have been considering? I guess it’s just a gift.
I think McTurtle knows it will fail, but is going through the motions to get Drumpfie off his back and to be able to say he tried “everything”.
A straightforward repeal of the ACA is even less popular with the GOP Congress than the crappy bill that just died. This one is DOA.
When will Ryan stop covering up for Trump’s treason?
IMO, the underlying issue here is the same issue that dates back to the early days of our nation. Who is the government for, the people or the rich? If you look at everything Republicans do though that filter you’ll understand why they do what they do. Everything else is just cover.
Somewhere someone said that this is the McConnell-can-prove-to-the-far right-that-he-tried note he wants to end on.
I just think that there is going to be no getting the Drumpster off of anyone’s back. He’s too desperate for a diversion.
WTF is McConnell’s deal? He literally will not rest until he has forced every member of his own caucus to walk the blank.
How does he hold on this leadership job?
That would have been around 1980.
