YES!!! When conservatives say the DNC had a better convention, you know this is the beginning of the end of Trumpcentricism.

Not to dump too much cold water on this but it really doesn’t matter what these people think. They aren’t the people who are going to decide the election. I do hope there will be a healthy bump in the polls for Hillary though. I really enjoyed the convention. I’ve filled my “cry” quota for the year.

‘We’ve spent forty years on talk radio, Fox News, in books, newspapers and pamphlets, on billboards and on websites saying everything Trump says, and it turns out when a person actually runs on those ideas at the national level they just come across as buffoonish and egomaniacal. Who knew?’

Trump: “We’re going to win so much, you’re going to be sick of winning.”

Sounds like the GOP is already sick of Trump winning.

This is a good start. But that is all that it is.

Remember a quarter century of right-wing lies and smears have poisoned American politics against Hillary Clinton. 40% of America would vote for Satan himself, “because at least he isn’t Hillary Clinton”.

Remember how such a remarkably squeaky-clean, upstanding, inspirational figure like Barack Obama was vilified for 8 years.

When Obama acted to end Osama Bin Laden, not a single voice on the right would give him credit or praise. That one fact says all that needs to be said.

The ocean of venom is deep and wide, and it will not be dispelled easily.

These Republicans took the party of Taft, Ike and Dirksen and made it the white nationalist party it is today. They are only weeping for themselves because they are pretending they really had a principled stance. It died when they choose Reagan as their leader.

There are a few things reflected here:

1 / Self-appointed Rep. conservatives are starting to fully realize the disastrous downsides of their excessive, cartoonish propaganda since Clinton is now embodied by Trump, and they realize it has all gone too, too far. (But they will never admit it out loud. Not really.) There was not much new thematically in Obama’s speech, for example, but they are pretending there was.

2 / This commentariat may now have to accept the fact that values, patriotism and national security are not the sole province of Republicans even though they excel at screaming so, cheap flag props, and renaming French Fries. They confuse image with reality. (Supporting torture, for ex., is not patriotic.)

3 / There will be at least 4 or 5 lifelong Republicans like Doug Elmets publicly defecting each week between now and the election. Some of the twitters here will be on that bus, and they are begin to telegraph it. They will not go down with Trump’s ship. It would affect their incomes.

I don’t know who the trashy republican woman on MSNBC was, but she really missed the mark. Even Fox News (except for Sean Hannity of course) raved about the speech and the number of positive, hopeful comments presented by Democrats. Yeah, Republicans should be worried.

The GOP as usual is wrong. This isn’t the DNC coopting or appropriating Republican themes. The vision that progressive Dems have been arguing and fighting for is coming to reality. Yes there are many challenges that have to be addressed but long held hopes are now reality. The expansion of healthcare, marriage equality, increased protections for women in the workplace and consolidation of women’s health care rights and the shattering of the limits of who can lead the nation are all dreams long held by progressives. Is there still a long way to go on race, economic inequality and and protections for labour? Yes. But Dems see themselves closer to the light at the end of the tunnel than any other period in the last 50 years, there convention plank is even the most progressive plank EVER. So yes the Democratic Party feels much more optimistic about the future of the party and the nation because it is much closer to realizing its idea of America than ever before.
