I’m m not sure who the writer is talking to, but from what I have been reading, the exact opposite is true. it appears the dems are going to pick up at least governor seats, and that mcconnell is not coming back. I think the dems will pick up seats in both houses. in congress, it’s possible the dems may regain control. I think they only need to win 7 seats.
the gop have angeref many voting blocks, who. I believe, will come out and vote.
They also make it more likely that they’ll have a very high turnout of a shrinking base. If the Dem politicians are unmotivating, and the Dem voters don’t see a reason to vote (obviously, not talking about those around here…) the GOTP Purity Party will still win.
So what you seem to be saying is 2014 is a lost cause, we should all gear up for the Hillary moment in 2016?
Wow, great message. Inspiring!
The GOP is an extremely effective party. It has a permanently motivated base. It has no problem at all with paralyzing government operations. It offers its core voters aggressive action–or non-action, which works just as well for them.
The Democratic Party’s appeal consists of “hey, we aren’t republicans.”
That’s really the key to winning: maximizing turnout and giving a majority a reason to get to the polls to vote. Milt Shook at pleasecutthecrap.com has always said that we can’t look to history, that we have to defy history. We have to be positive and promote the positives of supporting the Democrats and have an excellent GOTV effort. If turnout is 50% or higher in November, Democrats win.
No they are not effective, the GOP only has a 27% voter base, and the only part you’ve gotten correct is that most of them will get out and vote.
That’s really all that’s important in some cases, that and promoting the fact that Democrats aren’t obstructionists and actually want to make progress. We have to be pointing these things out.
Where are these ‘facts’ coming from? I certainly sense no trends toward the Republicans in my daily experiences–in fact, it seems the opposite. So many are disgruntled by the bickering, slandering and Republican obstructionism.
The teabaggers are always optimistic. They lose and they say that it is a win, somehow?
Obama is walking their dog and eating their lunch and yet, they see it as him being weak.
The benefit that the teabaggers have, is that they are oblivious to reality. Their ignorance is their strength and unlike some voters, they don’t get discouraged even though all of the indicators prove that they should be.
Until they are knocked out cold, they are still in the fight. They have the voters chance, which means, that despite their hideous policies and horrendous history, they can win by being riled up, which is what they do naturally.
It’s our job to knock them down and keep them down. Which means outvoting them. That’s it. Get Out The Vote! GOTV and the screechers go away. GOTV and we control our future. GOTV and we can quit talking about the bogeyman teabagger sneaking up on us. GOTV because we should always GOTV.
" possibly even very good — November" [due to gerrymandered cheating].
After years of overheated Village blather about the GOP’s future, hours of Priebus and Ryan simulated frankness, a mittload of Romney and the return of walking dead luminaries like Palin and Santorum, the 20%+ fringe does indeed remain in its usual pro Putin, semi-conscious state as their movement ironically becomes the sin that dares not speak its name.
In the 2016 Senatorial elections there will be 24 republicans up for re-election and 10 Democrats. The Democrats will prevail, and we must keep this in mind if we lose some seats this year.
I think the GOP’s 2014 optimism is overrated, but even if they do take over the Senate it will most certainly not be by much and they will also be screwed from that point on. 2016 is not just a presidential election where Democrats turn out in larger numbers, it’s also the year that several Republicans who won in 2010 will be defending their seats in the Senate (23 out of 32 open seats) and some in blue states like NH, WI and PA. With a presidential primary coming up and several senators trying to win over much less conservative voters in their states there is no way they will be able to do anything effectively, even with a (probably temporary) Senate majority.
