Discussion: The Mystery Of The Fake Invoices That Keep Popping Up In The Manafort Trial

I think Gotti used to get something like $10 per big bucket in exchange for labor peace.
Then in Atlantic City, they would get like $1 per towel. I may be off in my numbers, but that was the game. One AC hotel mgr who thought he could buck the mob ended up with cement shoes. Poor guy never got the memo.

According to the Constitution Article 3 Section 3 it takes two witnesses to an overt act of treason… I hope Mueller’s ready with multiple witnesses.

edit to add

Every few hours I get this sinking feeling that Mueller’s gonna go all Milquetoast on trump and just write a whiny report to Congress and the whole thing will go away and trump will then go on a tear for Russia and destroy us utterly.
But everything I read tells me trump is in deep to Putin. What the hold Putin has I don’t know but it’s obvious to me it’s there. And trump is willing to damn near anything criminal to keep it secret. I believe trump has committed obstruction, money laundering, and treason to name the big three. Some days I think he’ll get indicted and have to resign. Other times I think Mueller will whitewash the whole damn crazy quilt of crimes. When that mood hits I get really depressed.
Why did trump run for office in the first place? He could have wallowed in his money to his heart’s content and nobody would care:

But no, he had to open himself up to life under a microscope. It makes no sense to me. If I were worth millions I sure as hell would not want the glare of public life.

Way OT, but TPM has to do an article on this (unless I missed it with the usual Trump chaos today)-

Trump admin plans to freeze fuel efficiency standards for autos

Trump administration said freezing the requirements at 2020 levels would save people $1,900 per new vehicle.
It contends that freezing the mileage requirements at 2020 levels would also save up to 1,000 lives per year.

Why?
ā€œpeople will drive less if their vehicles get fewer miles per gallon, lowering the risk of crashes.ā€
So Trump is saying Americans will save money at purchase, but pay out the nose at the pump, so they will drive less. Hence save lives by denying Americans economic car travel. Damn good logic.

Union of Concerned Scientists estimates fuel efficiency standards have saved folks $64 Billion and counting. EDF has it at a cool $1 Trillion. I believe the former over the latter, but a comment at the EDF site would be appreciated. Talking Points: saves tons of money at the pump, dramatically reduces pollution, reduces US dependency on oil imports, even auto manufacturers are against it (global competition issues), and lighter, newer cars are safer than older clunkers.

If you had Trump’s mob and oligarch connections, it probably would be the last thing you would do. The very last. After the cheeseburger.

Yeah, just like political commentators kept saying he couldn’t keep his campaign alive in the face of all the comments, events, id-driven lifestyle, etc., etc., but he did. Difference is he could fool a few million people for a short time then, and he doesn’t realize that this sitdown wouldn’t be quite so effortless.

Completely off topic but I thought some levity was in order…

Trump wants to use reverse psychology to get Democrats to build the wall

"President Trump came up with an interesting way to get his border wall while
holding a rally in Pennsylvania: Reverse psychology.

The President told the crowd he’ll tell Democrats he doesn’t want to
build a wall — and then, ā€œthey’ll insist on building it.ā€ "
…
Now even the President of Mexico said he didn’t want the wall and wasn’t gonna pay for it so I guess trump gave up on that angle. A clear majority of Americans think the wall is stupid…which it is. And democrats don;t want that damned wall so I doubt any of trump’s ā€œcleverā€ reverse psychology is gonna work. No wall? Fine with me cuz it means we save a ton of money. After all a 2000 mile wall would be one of the largest constructions in human history. It took the Chinese centuries to build their wall.

Humans can be bamboozled and fooled into doing something against their direct self interest. On the other hand a section of the Federal Code cannot be bamboozled or fooled since it’s a law. Trump can blather all he wants up to the point of lying to Mueller. Then he is fried if he lies. Trump could say whatever he wants to about Obstruction of Justice but his blather will not change the law. If Mueller has the evidence and the corrupt intent in the bag to prove obstruction then anything trump says to the contrary is nothing but hot air in a fetid swamp.

You don’t think it’s something involving underage women? Something I would really prefer not to know about?

You assume he ready has money. Evidence suggests it’s all a scam. Personally, I think his goal was a new ā€œFox likeā€ network, and it all went south because the Russians were involved - SAD!

I had heard it put that he’s been deposed literally hundreds of times already with previous lawsuits, and thinks he’s an absolute pro at it. I heard this so many months ago that I’ve forgotten the source, someone who had been covering him for a looong time.

Oh! he wants the biggest wall! how did I miss this???

ETA: plausible due to 1) real estate and construction 2) rivalry with other countries 3) rumors that the Trumpers were happy to have us all wondering about the Russia connections because it would distract from … the China connections. I wonder if Chinese real estate investments (in, say, Canada) are cleaner or dirtier than the Russian Laundry.
