I hope that if Lindsley and the others want war with Iran, they will enlist and put on their armor to meet the Persians on the Plains of Marathon. I also hope the handlers for this jerk will advise him of how gay that will look.

The subtext that confuses is me is why do the GOP’ers want to go back to the scenario that allowed Iran to advance this far in it’s nuclear ambitions? After all it was the pre-negotiation Iran that built all those centrifuges and stockpiled all that uranium. Sanctions did not stop that. So why go back to that?

Don’t allow a Democratic President a major achievement. No ACA or Iran Deal. Those are major achievements reserved for GOP’ers only. No Reaganesque achievements…other than for Reagan. No claim to fame by a Democrat. What else could it be?

“Despite the immense amount of blood and treasure spent in Iraq, some have still not learned the lesson that wars in the Middle East fought in the name of nuclear non-proliferation are best avoided if there is a better option.”

Because learning curves are for pussies!

Well, your question assumes the GOP have rational motives intended to achieve rational ends. They don’t want the deal because they want another trillion for the death industry.

the unicorn deal

I love the bracing splash of an old-fashioned disturbing subtext, especially with boring usual suspect drama squirrels…

Dear GOP,

Kicking and screaming is no way to get out of quicksand, but I recommend you keep trying.

Sincerely,
An Amused Democrat

The Republicans in Congress who oppose the idea of negotiating with Iran aren’t even interested in negotiating with their Democratic counterparts at their day jobs. Domestically, they prefer to (and did) shut the government down than negotiate a compromise.

Republicans don’t negotiate. Republicans only know how to bomb their way out of problems. But as we have seen time and time again, bombing is no way to achieve political aims. America is tired of unending war, that’s why we elected Obama TWICE. We’re tired of all the bombastic rhetoric, and the irreparable mess left behind after our invasions. Do we want another ISIS to form, one that is 100X worse than the one that morphed out of Al Qaeda in Iraq, who never existed until WE bombed the shit out of them?

Lindsay Graham is way out of line here. His only solution to the world’s problems is to “Bomb bomb bomb Iran” like Gramps. But Obama stood up to the warhawks and said NO MORE WAR. And for that he cemented his legacy as the greatest President in modern times.

IRAN & CONGRESS IN NEAR TIE FOR TRUST AMONG AMERICANS

“…[Five] 5 percent had “a lot” of trust that the country would stick to the terms of an agreement.”

“Seven percent [7%] of Americans say they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in Congress….”

Whether the deal with Iran, or what to order for lunch, the subtext is obvious–if Obama is for it, the GOP is against it.

When did nuclear disarmament become a bad thing?

Cheerleading for nuclear winter in the Middle East (or anywhere else) just isn’t a winning agenda among those in the civilized, sane world. The nitwits running the GOP are painting themselves into a corner of history only occupied by dodo birds and the Whig Party.

It just doesn’t make any sense to keep Iran on the course of becoming another nuclear country. Do Republicans really want to see Iran and Israel wage nuclear war? This is the only way to stop it.

The president is up to 50% approval again since he’s stuck to his guns and stopped letting the GOP push him around.

The world would be better off if Iran had nuclear weapons.

Republican mendacious attitude related to this treaty is beyond mind boggling. How can you possibly comment on anything if you have no idea what the facts of the treaty are? What did you source for all the comments of such a bad deal before reading the document? I’ll bet the Donald knows what you are saying behind those closed doors. I am sure he will let us know soon enough. What do you think Reinse? Can you keep him quiet?

Nobody should forget that the GOP base is dominated by Evangelical Christianists who want war in the Middle East because it confirms their End Times, “Rapture me now, Jesus” prophecies. Iran fits the bill perfectly. Of course, what Bibi Netanyahoo doesn’t seem to grasp is that these fine religious folk don’t really give a flying f*ck about Israel, since the End Times requires the destruction of Israel along the way.

The reality is that the sanctions opponents of the deal and bellicose opposition to Iran have nothing to do with nuclear weapons. That is simply the easy “WMD” style excuse to want sanctions on Iran, for non-nuclear weapons related reasons. That is the core of why Israel for example opposes this (or any deal) with Iran the lifts sanctions. Not because of legitimate concern of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, Israel’s own nuclear capability (and let remember Israel refuses to even sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, unlike Iran) is more than enough to keep even a hypothetically nuclear-armed Iran from being an actual legitimate existential threat to Israel.

This has always been about using any and all excuses to economically cripple Iran. Nuclear weapon development being the only rationale that could get the U.N. on-board with global sanctions.

Fortunately, it really doesn’t matter what the Republicans think on this. Next week, the UN Security Council will vote to remove sanctions, conditional on Iran fulfilling the various commitments it has made. That vote will not say “of course we defer to the US Congress”. Assuming Iran does as required that means sanctions from China, Russia, Europe and other countries like India and Japan are gone. The only thing Congress can do is maintain US sanctions, which are meaningless, since the US has little it would trade with Iran.

The gnashing of teeth in Congress is an attempt to distract from the reality that it’s a done deal and there will be no military action either, since the US public is almost unanimously against that, Republicans included.
