Discussion for article #243585
“What kind of human being could do what he did?” his father, Said, told The Parisien newspaper. “If I had known he would do something like this, I would have killed him.”
And what could possibly go wrong with this?
Egad he sounds like Trump
Actually, Trump would just have the father, the mother and the mom all killed. Just the way Donald Trump and the modern GOP roll.
I think that is unfair to a father talking about his own son and talking about a hypothetical situation where he “had known” what the son was going to do. That isn’t Trump’s bigotry and baseless demonizing.
Exactly. He sounds nothing like Trump when he says that he would have killed his own son had he known that his son was planning a terrorist attack. He sounds like a human being.
All the Nov. 13 attackers identified so far have been from France or Belgium, native French speakers
There’s your new target, GOP. How many French speakers cross into the US from Quebec and other Canadian provinces each year? Mon dieu!
I hope some reputable source will reveal how these EU terrorists get their guns, ammo and explosives.
While I can Identify with the man’s grief, it is the simplistic take the law into your own hands, knee jerk, with out thought, the law be damned, tough sounding, boisterous approach that defines Tump and the GOP in general.
Could not disagree with you more. There is no comparison at all in my view.
I know this is not really important, but what is with using the word, “Mom” in situations like this? “Mom” is a kind of pet name for your mother. When talking about terrorists, murders, and other criminals, I think the more formal, “Mother” would be more appropriate. I saw a week or so ago that “A Mom poisoned her 6 month old with rat poison” — Sheesh!!!
At least they didn’t say…“his dad, Said, tole The Parisien newspaper. 'If I had known…I would have killed him.”
I have wanted to say this for a long time!
I’m as quick as the next lady to to argue against vigilantism and violent solutions, but the man likely just had the ultimate repudiation of the boy he thought he raised against the boy he actually raised. Now’s not the time to judge him for statements borne in grief.
I believe that these two recent attacks will have effects not entirely negative. I believe that there will be more outreach to Muslims, both in Europe and the United States. There will be better intel. There will be better coordination. There will be more linkage of these attacks to power vacuums and political mismanagement in the ME.
In short, there will be more grown-up things and a moving away from childish rhetoric.
But Trump is not finished. yet. The suits have decided that there is still a boatload (maybe a yachtload) of more money to be made from the Donald Trump Show.
I have had a pet peeve with people using the English language in ways in which slang and pet-diminutives can mislead, for a long time. I agree with your post.
I’m just really surprised that they chose to do this shit in France or the folks in San Bernardino chose to attack folks that helped handicapped people. What the fuck man? Seems like you’re making the people that might halfway have some sympathy to you into enemies. Do just they think there will be less retaliation?
Hunh. Disaffected natives who see violence as a way to make a political statement.
We don’t have any of those in the US.
@DickWeed: They really don’t care. That’s the point of terrorism - make everyone afraid and suspicious of those around them and inflame those most like you until they act.
Well perhaps. However if it were me I would wonder where I went wrong, what I could have done, perhaps that is what he meant, if so it wasn’t a very deep introspection; which is a very typical GOP response.
Hell, sometimes the minor but thoughtless shit my kids do makes me cry. If the father is being honest, I can’t image the pain he feels
I’d like to believe this as the current administration has been responsible for the utter fuck-ups of Shrub & Co. It’s a much smarter and cosmopolitan group. I mean, Rice as, first, National Security Advisor! and then SS? She had zero international or high ranking government experience prior to either position.
I know what’s necessary. I pray that it can be done. I do not believe in the Republicans. We are talking about a religion containing billions. Moreover, I fault the MSM for focusing in on the Muslims which look, well, like me: Olive-skinned. And many more that are brown-skinned.
To do this exclusively would be a mistake. There are Balkan-Peninsula Muslims. There are Muslims who are from the various regions of the Soviet empire. Throw in a cowboy hat, wrangler shirt, Levi’s, boots and put 'em in a pickup, they can look as though they came out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
There is a whole new paradigm that is coming down in which the United States is going to have to make adjustments.
Donald Trump can be compared to someone running a filling station during the time in American history in which people out West (and in other parts of the country) ran what they called “Gas Wars”. Someone would offer gasoline for 22 cents a gallon (lots of filling stations were selling gasoline for 25 cents more or less, during this time)…
Then another station, hungry for business, would jack their price down to 21 cents. The others would go down to 20 cents, 19 cents and so on.
“Give 'em what they want.”
THAT’S what Trump is doing here. He’s providing a cathartic political service and his customers are satisfied. Being both a marketer and a businessman he knows HOW.
What he is NOT is a statesman…Which is what we need right now, along with some the things I described above, and much more.
Stop digging.
