I had a conversation a couple years ago with an Ethiopian emigrant who came here in the 1980s to open a restaurant, mostly inspired by the pro-emigration and pro-business policies espoused by then-President Reagan. He has long since abandoned the GOP because of their social-policy fixation and denial of objective reality. Texas’ flirtation with secession was also in the news at that time, and he made the same salient point – “Without the US, they would be Somalia.”
Somebody ought to let the teasippers in Austin in on this. They constantly like to pretend that Texas is not really a southern state. As if nutballs like Louie Gohmert or Ted Cruz could get elected in San Francisco or L.A.
Go! Go now! Don’t wait for your silly convention, get the hell out NOW! I’m sure Oklahoma and other states would be glad to have all the military posts that currently employ Texans, ditto all other federal government offices and facilities. I cannot encourage you strongly enough to exit, stage right. Of course, don’t look to us for subsidies, services or trade agreements. Naturally you’ll be declared a terrorist state, so once you get out you’ll have to stay out.

In their weakened state after all US military bases close they will be more willing to accept the Amero as their currency and have their sovereignty eroded by decisions made at the Pan-American Parliament in San Francisco.
Oh and don’t forget gun control and the metric system.
Please let me get my things packed before you close the borders. I don’t want to have to wait in line applying for a visa to return to the (formerly-)USA. I will gather up as much of Austin as I can, too.
Maybe we could make a deal with these idiots: They can secede, and in ten years–after a decade of demonstrating what right-wing economic and social fantasies do to a small republic–if they want to, they can come crawling back to us and we’ll take them back . . . as a territory.
Great news. Not only would we lose one of the Taker red states which regularly drain our federal budget, we would also finally lose that Cuban Canadian GOP presidential candidate for good. Cruz could no longer dodge the question as to whether he is a citizen of the United States. All Texans would not be American citizens.
And Mexico would be free to invade Texas to take back their territory. Imagine all those rapist hordes crossing the Rio Grande to impregnate the flowers of the Christina Wrong. Imagine all those anchor babies being born to dominate the new Texas State.
