Discussion: Texas GOP Endorses 'Reparative Therapy' For Gays

Discussion for article #223654

Too bad that there doesn’t seem to be any reparative therapy for choosing to be a Republican, even though I am pretty sure that nobody is born with that particular type of brain disease.

Someone should get the American Psychological Association interested in how to cure Republicanism. Since this ailment has pretty significant repercussions for all of us (unlike, say, being gay, which concerns only the person who is gay), it would be a huge benefit for society if some reparative therapy (preferably with plenty of electric shocks, but I’m no psychologist) is finally invented. Hopefully, it will work much better than gay reparative therapy.

im here to say i support this move. i fully support the republicans of texas to say and believe as they like. its there right. where these types always screw up is they take these beliefs and are using them to strip people of the same legal protections of the US Constitution. Thats where the support stops. Thats why they are bigots. Remember also these religious right zealots are also mixing fear of the other, religion, and lots of guns and ammo. there being told to take back america. they think its there divine right to rule this country under “christian” law. the more advances gay people make the more they feel backed into a corner. what does a scared animal do when backed into a corner… so this is not going to end well for these anti-gay religious extremist as they are violent prone bunch. remember its the same mindset that lynched and sicked dogs on blacks in the south. its the same mindset that blew up that church in birmingham killing those little girls. its the same mindset of eric rudolf who killed abortion drs. its the same mindset of timothy mcveigh who thought the govt. was out of control and took action.

‘Reparative’ implies repair…

My dear gay American friends, did you know you’re faulty and need to be repaired?

Why again do some of you insist on supporting a party that is opposed to your existence?

‘Metroplex Republicans’ are the real-world equivalent of Clayton Bigsby.

Austin is pretty liberal. I had a good time there.

That said, I didn’t see anything else in Texas. Didn’t have my passport and my “derp vaccination” isn’t current.

As I have said, here is my prediction:

The Kochs, Adelson, and Rove are going to let the clown car take a lap. Canadian Ted will win Texas, AynRand Paul Iowa. Then the corporate owners of the Party of Herp will lower the boom.

The smears will start. Fox will pick up the refrain. We have to win win win, no matter who we nominate. By Super Tuesday, the Baggers will be swooning over Jeb like middle-aged housewives sneaking a peek at “50 Shades of Gray.”

Actually, all of Texas’ major-metro areas have a recent history of (D) voting majorities-- except D/FW.
Once you look south of I-10-- you’ll find that even rurally-- (D)s are popular.

Austin has an overt liberal persona-- has for decades.
Her Honor Annise Parker is our openly-lesbian mayor.
San Antonio’s Mayor Julian Castro; may be HRC’s best choice for a running mate in '16.

We’re pretty close down here to flipping Texas purple.
Just that the crazy here is louder-- as pols like John Cornyn have already ceded that demographics here will permanently change the ÂŽ majority before this decade ends.

®s here know when TX flips-- it’s also over, presidentially, for the GOP.

Sure worked for Marcus Bachmann, didn’t it?

Then again. Maybe in his case it was the other way around. If I had to see Michele naked, maybe I’d prefer a gerbil and a “cabana boy” named Raimundo.

So trading a full throated party endorsement of the hyper, anti-gay idea of the discredited “reparative therapy” for “Winning the removal of decades-old language in the state party platform that states, “homosexuality tears at the fabric of society”” is victory for conservative Texas gays? When are they going to learn that it is the Democrats who have championed gay rights. Become a conservative Democrat, or at least an independent, because by the name of Sam Houston, the republic party will never accept you, especially the Texass republic party.

The Texas GOP is sure working hard to turn the state purple. Kudos you crazy bastards!

Oeftering and allies had lined up to speak against the therapy language that had been added earlier this week. But they never got a chance to address delegates, because a parliamentary motion to approve the full platform was called first.

Classic. What assholes.

Re-education camps. The Taliban is no longer repressive enough as a model for the Tea Party. They’ve moved on to adopt the policies of the Khmer Rouge.

The group that needs reality therapy is the groups that made up this extreme right ring slut fest of a gop convention. Talk about being out of touch with reality. They hate any immigration solutions, equal rights, public education, the unfettered right to vote, access to healthcare, promote the phony science of creationism, adore pollution and peddle poisonous drinking water, promoting their own brand of religion and corporate rule, the adoration and worship of guns in any form. And the world thought the Taliban and Al-qeada were the most dangerous groups.

As a Texas resident my immediate response to the photo is - where’d they find all those white people? Only at a gop convention/rally will you see such a glaring concentration of caucasions.

As always, Texas has its finger on the pulse of the nation. Explain to me again why we fought so hard against Mexico for this godforsaken state?

And to fight obesity in the US, the GOP will also vote to repeal earth’s gravity, but only after they try to send it to therapy…
