Of course Texas wants to spend money on anything but health care for its citizens, or to clean up their air and water. Freedumb isnt’ free now is it for it comes with a great cost to society. I may be wrong but the Maoists in China were the ones big on those re-education camps. The Khmer Rouge I thought just starved or killed anyone with an ounce of education or elite “intellectual” status, even those that simply wore glasses, which they perceived as better than their agrarian counterparts in the countryside. Pol Pot had his own kind of unique Crazy. Labor camps and re-education camps are perhaps a difference without a distinction however.

The Maoists were the model for the Khmer Rouge. According to Sydney Schanberg’s book, Beyond the Killing Fields, Pol Pot declared ‘Year Zero’ when the Khmer Rouge captured Phnom Penh in April 1975, at which time he started a ruthless program to “purify” Cambodian society of capitalism, Western culture, religion and all foreign influences. He wanted to create Cambodia into an isolated and totally self-sufficient Maoist agrarian state. Anyone who opposed was killed.
The country’s entire population was relocated into agricultural labor camps, living in primitive conditions. City residents were subjected to unending political indoctrination and brainwashing. Children were encouraged to spy on adults, including their parents. You’re right – it was a special kind of crazy.
