The crime is horrid, but 11 years?
A 16 year old offender can turn his life around. A 27 year old with 40 % of his entire life behind bars has almost no chance.

Unless I missed it, nowhere on the page is the youth pictured identified. TPM has a bad habit of putting up photos with stories and not identifying the persons in the image. That could well be the victim, with his hair combed so oddly to hide the swastiscar. We shouldn’t have to assume or guess.

Along with the victim, the perpetrators are also very angry, or else they would not have done this to someone.
Such a sad state of affairs that we would raise such children that are this angry that no one notices and they have no resources to reach out to.
If the victim was indeed a bully, he will remain a bully free to bully someone else. At least we will have had the opportunity to insure that this teenager will also be damaged more and his life irrevocably ruined forever. Seems like society comes out with the justice they deem appropriate. Never ever should we look into the causes, attempt to redeem, educate or help our children, because then we might actually raise ourselves above this “religious sanctity” that is driving us.

I agree. From what I understand, the decision-making part of the male brain isn’t even fully formed until about 25; a 16 year old kid is just that, a kid. We’ve gotten way out of control in treating children in the criminal justice system as little adults.

Yes, but the AP photo carried the name of the perp, not the name of the guy in the photo - also very confusing. Weren’t the kids or their families compelled to pay for the vic’s plastic surgery? That haircut will bring him nothing but more grief.
