You gotta have someone for “the good guys with guns” to put in their cross-hairs.
God bless you, you little shooty gun nuts, you.
And THAT
tremendously buttresses the success of the Republican Party, with the aid of the “false equivalency” MSM
Is there any evidence that proper training at an early age will prevent that child from using guns to murder someone either accidentally or for instance in a stand your ground situation? Or does early training teach a child respect for the power of the gun and so leads to abiding by laws? I’ve never handled one, am put off at the thought of doing so, and familiarity with one is not a possibility. Better half lived on a ranch growing up and had to shoot critters occasionally and so is familiar with them, but they still scare me to death.
Same here only it was Scouts. I spent the better part of three summer camps at the range on my way to Sharpshooter but I cannot recall how many bars before I stopped. I hunted regularly on our farm, mostly quail, but never fired a gun other than to stay qualified after returning home from Vietnam.
Becoming familiar with guns at an early age taught me to respect them and the damage they can do. And that the damage cannot be undone.
I just saw something recently about a gun company that is putting scripture on their automatic guns, as well as differentiating the safety setting (I think) with the terms Peace (locked), War (single shots), and God’s Will (continuous fire)… I wonder if this is the same company…
There was an image of what you describe somewhere on TPM yesterday I think.
It can’t/won’t prevent all gun violence, accidents, etc. – but a very big part of the solution is teaching the proper respect for the power of the weapon and how that power needs to be harnessed by sane minds utilizing the weapon for actual sport or defense–and what “defense” really means. A real gun safety class is more than a few hours and involves a lot of getting across to the student the proper mindset, what a responsibility it is to own or use such weapons–not only that it’s fun, cool and super awesome to feel the power in your own two hands. A true gun safety class is far more than just the mechanics of how to properly and safely physically handle a gun – it delves in the psyche.
Ted Cruz is even scarier than Trump.
“gun nuts are never around to stop the massacres they purport to be protecting us from”
You gotta remember that the only thing that is really gonna stop a bad guy with a gun, is some indolent jerkoff with a gun.
Much…
You just have to listen to that still, small voice that reminds you to let your breath out before you pull the trigger…
I was going to reply to lgb-- but your post BC captured most of what I was thinking.
Though I’ll go a step further-- in separating gun safety classes-- which seems easily less regarded as requirement, from a program that is structured as competition with one’s self and others. I learned there was a joy to excelling at shooting a rifle. But was also-- over an extended period of years-- ingrained with the safety aspects that shaped my adult perspective to this day.
And while it was-- if you will-- serious fun & games’ as a kid-- now, like lgb–I just don’t see the value of guns as an adult.

even in the midst of horrific events like this, we should never rush to take away the basic liberties enshrined in our Constitution that are guaranteed to law-abiding American citizens
Yeah, the Founding Fathers really thought holding an event at a gun range a few days after a mass shooting should be a basic liberty. Where is Failgunner Cruz find someone crazier than him?
What an insufferable fuck. Good god.
Ted Cruz is even scarier than Trump.
Could either of them tolerate staffers telling them to be careful, they might be making a mistake?
My experience matches yours. I was a Scout and hunted (during a brief spell in the States growing up–then back to Germany, where gun=no dice).
In 2015, it’s not the gun so much as the worship of the gun.
Wonder how much NRA contributes to Teddy’s Dark $ide?
god? what does he have to do with it? now words adequately express how sick these assholes are (on all issues)
TeaOcracy if the Je$u$ freaks gain control.
