I lived in Las Cruces for nearly 30 years. I figured Beto was like Bill Richardson. Gringo father, Latina mother. I think I met him once, when he was on the El Paso City Council. Back in the days before the cartels, hopping across the border was a great way to spend a day. You could practice your Spanish too, if the locals weren’t insistent on practicing their English.
