The truly surprising thing about this whole Whelan event is this ham-handed attempt to craft an alternative narrative.
These are supposed to be smart people with access to competent and strategic communicators.
This is like a bunch of drunken cigar smoking old time politicians who sit around in worn leather chairs at night in a softly lit room trying to out impress each other with their ‘brilliant’ ideas.

politico deserves a good bit of credit. they were on this one from the start, including a piece that rounded up all the DC rumors of a looming bombshell. their list even nailed the mistaken-identity contention. given what politico uncovered in the latest story, CRC was obviously planting this BS around town. i hope reporters realize they should never trust this sleazy firm ever again.
