Omg, is that for real? :flushed: It’s one thing for us all here to joke about Dotard doing something like that, but it’s quite another when it’s the DAUGHTER doing the accusing. yikes.

I loved Ed Whelan on “Batman”!

As Swift Boaters, many of them claimed to have been either with Kerry or close by. What are they claiming this time, that they were in the room where they witnessed that Kavanaugh didn’t try to rape Ms. Blasey Ford? Corsi, O’Neil–the whole bunch–are a lot like toe fungus, they won’t go away. Who pays them when they are in hibernation?

In a very real sense, this is all the fault of the national political press.

The “establishment” press has allowed Republicans to get away with so much for so long, breathlessly filtering Republican spin into article after article, that Republicans stopped having to try long, long ago, and grew lazy, and mendacious, and careless.

The election of Donald, coming on the heels of Mitch McConnell’s theft of that Supreme Court seat (when the national political press went with the whole “Biden Rule” thingie, instead of just demolishing the Republicans for their corrupt and unconstitutional gambit) must have persuaded Republicans that they were getting away with it: that not only did they not need to try—they could do the opposite of “trying.”

They could engage in perverse, negative, stupid activity and the press would still, breathlessly, represent them as the grown-up Party with the brilliant strategic edge.

Only a few months ago, I was still reading articles about how the very existence of Nancy Pelosi doomed the Democrats to permanent oblivion, because of course (the press assured me confidently, having been so assured by men like, one assumes, Ed Whelan) everybody hates Nancy Pelosi.

Turns out they don’t: and the press was obliged to report, with some astonishment, that right now Nancy Pelosi is actually more popular than the mobbed-up old thug they helped elect in 2016, at least according to internal RNC polling.

Anyhow, this is the long form version of saying that Ed Whelan, who goes to all the right cocktail parties with all the right reporters, had every reason to believe he didn’t have to break a sweat to get this nonsense launched. He had the Swiftboaters, he had Kathleen Parker at the Post, he had Senators Hatch and Grassley and their eager young staffs, he had Leonard Leo and Don McGahn and an experienced, uniquely vicious partisan hatchet man named Brett Kavanaugh to advise him, and he had Twitter (and Zillow).

He didn’t actually have to come up with a brilliant plot: all he had to do was say anything and, if Kathleen Parker’s “doppelganger” column was any indication, he’d have it wrapped up by the Sunday shows. It would be the “Springtime For Hitler” of political ploys—so bad it just had to be a hit.

Oops. Poor you, Ed Whelan.

So one problem with the current administration is I no longer can keep straight what is morally repugnant, from what is criminal, from what is simply precedent-shattering abuse of power.

Josh Marshall keeps writing about the Ed Whelan story – there is a new note about which member of the Judiciary Committee was coordinating with Whelan – but I have to say I can’t figure out into which category this falls. Could it derail the nomination? Does it break laws or Senate rules? Or is it, in the end, like so much of what is happening, just an incredibly bad faith attempt that flouts ethical norms in order to further consolidate power?

I think you’ll pay a Price for that.

Well, plan A didn’t work, so I guess CRC will move on to plan B. Prepare to hear Blasy Ford is not only a slut, but a prostitute. Hmm. What else"? She didn’t attend Holton Arms, didn’t grow up in the DMV and her California residence proves she is a Nancy Pelosi love child who grew up in (gasp!!), San Francisco.

The right-wing intertubes will meltdown.

And this guy is supposedly in charge of ethics in the GOP. That explains a lot. Another totally bankrupt lie that poses the opposite of what this guy claims to represent.

I remember that, and still get burning mad thinking about the whole phony thing - kerry was a good candidate and has conducted himself well in public office since.
