Discussion: Susan Rice: ‘Absolutely False’ That Unmasking US Persons Was ‘Political’

Wow. Thanks for posting that - that is a beautiful place and I love her color scheme.

The various DREAMERs his brownshirts in ICE have rounded up since the inauguration? Destroyed might be a little strong, but the damage done to their lives is pretty severe. They might not be able to destroy anyone with any real political influence, but they are bullies. They get off on hurting the weak and vulnerable.

Hmmm. I had you down for decorating…would you consider refreshments or activities?

Boy…the methbillies really supersized this nothingburger. It’s like all they’re talking about anywhere on Faux News, Breitbart and the rest of the conservative propaganda machine.

hahahahahahahahaha I’m better with refreshments. I’m not a good activity director - too lazy. hahahaha

That is fair, they have caused the DREAM kids a lot of pain.

Ms. Greenspan is a hack for 1%, always has been. MSNBC should have fired her sorry ass yesterday.

Why would they do that? This is perfect as far as they’re concerned. Their target base and audience is going to lose its everloving fucking mind if she’s not prosecuted and/or if Trump-Russia collusion is proven. The agit-prop peddlers know they’re selling misinformation and lies, but it serves their purposes anyway, because these idiots won’t believe anything except what their chosen sources tell them. The real purpose is to keep them out of their minds with anger and resentment towards every societal more and standard that they view as having kept them from power and dominance and controlling the American gov’t and culture for the past 50+ years. Many of the Teatrolls that are sitting in Congress operate on that same level as their constituents, believing this nonsense whole-hog. The rest operate on the same level as places like Faux News and Breitbart: not giving a fuck if it’s all lies and bullshit as long as it’s useful.

You have to wonder why Trump is so personally obsessed with Obama. His sense of entitlement and fragile manhood seems to have been uniquely threatened by this black guy achieving the presidency – and so he had not only to discredit and diminish him, but he has to one up him. Trump can’t feel satisfied even after winning the election while Obama is still held in high regard. He has to destroy him personally and eliminate his legacy. Notice how every single accomplishment of Obama’s presidency is ceremoniously documented being undone with a branding of a new executive order emblazoned with the name TRUMP. And with the tweet accusing Obama of abuse of power – spying upon Trump personally, I think his ultimate goal is to see him thrown in jail. Rice is yet another proxy target (after Hillary) towards this goal of destroying Obama. Its not going to be long before we are going to be hearing Trump supporters screaming for blood “Lock Him Up!”.

I gotta agree.
I also didn’t recall a push of McCain or Romney voters to reach out to Obama voters to understand us.

And once again Republicans are trying to change the subject through misdirection.

Thankfully I’m seeing some pushback and fact checking on this, whereas before it seemed the media would try dodging picking sides. It’s almost like they assume Trump and Republicans are lying - which is refreshing

I’m also happy to see Rice out there setting the record straight and giving her side of what happened. Hope this continues.

He’s in for a major disappointment.

This noise about Susan Rice is just noise filling up the space until we get to the real shit. The real shit is NOT going away either. The real shit is the Trump campaign’s involvement with Russia and that has not been overtaken by this noise about Susan Rice.

I agree – but in the mean time, Trump and the GOP enablers are going to tear this country apart – and for what? This pathetic ego – its like a black hole.

The media is BS molded to conform with, distract and moderate the evolving will of the public to keep the road rolling and the public appeased. The public will can, occasionally, upset the apple cart but, like mercury freed from a thermometer, everything runs back into the same shiny ball.

No they aren’t. What the fuck people - he’s a minority president with minority support. If anything he is uniting the country against him.

He’s pathetic alright and about 56% of us agree.

To repeat an assertion even in contradiction is to risk reinforcing it: When Nixon said, “I am not a crook,” he fixed the label “crook” to his forehead; asking Susan Rice if she acted improperly or leaked is to label it “improper” or her a “leaker” and reinforce both by her denial.

Frames are not propaganda but they are what propaganda uses to sway opinion so avoiding repetition is often the first step towards inoculation; e.g., changing “corporate regulation” to “public protection” alters direction of debate and so does asking why false accusations are being made rather than forcing the falsely accused to defend themselves.

A similar approach to writing headlines can provide better focus to an article; at least it will change the lede and hopefully disallow distractions or at least put them below the fold where they belong.

NB: If they haven’t already done so, every resister, every media outlet claiming support for democratic outcomes whether they be identifiable as progressive or not, needs to read and re-read George Lakoff’s post Ten points for Democracy Activists. Read it and every link it contains.*

*Disclosure: I have no association with Lakoff or his organization other than subscription to his work.

Of course, these are the same folks who believed the Obama is a Kenyan Muslim idiocy. No matter what evidence Rice puts forward, these imbeciles are going to believe whatever right-wing propaganda Fox and Breitbart serve up to them. These people will never be saved from their own stupidity—a lost cause.

Sorry to ignore you for a so long. I had chores to do. I do see your point. But for me, it’s about trust as well as reporting objective reality. The coverage of the election campaign by the mainstream media was abysmal. You don’t have to take my world for it. Check out the reports from the Columbia School of Journalism and The Schorenstein Center. Policy matters were hardly covered, coverage of the candidates was asymmetric in favor or Trump. The NYT was fixated on emails and dismissed the Trump-Russia connection in the basis of an FBI “leaker” who essentially lied to the paper.

To be fair, the WAPO did a pretty decent job, as did a number of other outlets

But right now, my trust of our corporate media is at a low ebb. Time will tell.
