Discussion: Susan Collins Questions Senate TrumpCare's Cuts To Medicaid

Okay, so Collins is playing “good cop” and will be one of the two dissenting Republicans.

Rural hospitals here in Maine are in big trouble. The biggest one in the northern region just had its heavy debt downgraded to junk-bond status. I think we’re also second in the country per capita for drug overdose emergency room visits. Hospitals will be going bankrupt very quickly if this passes – the state is too old and poor to begin to handle these cuts. She is from northern Maine and spends lots of time out in the public – she would have constituents in her face constantly about this. Can’t wait to see the protests at 4th of July events she attends.

Republican. She’s my Senator and I’ve been calling, emailing, and visiting her office here in Portland. She’s going to pretend to be concerned, then vote for it imho.

Moderate Repugs always fold. Josh Marshal.

I fixed my typo.

Yes this is the bullshit period where they get to wrinkle their brows and express concern then vote for it anyway. Corporate whores every one of them - every single fucking one.

@taisie22 - good on you for your activism!!

She’ll get a concession and fold.

Welcome back to the chin stroking club, Susan. You’re a founding member and in good standing for life.

Who does she think she’s fooling?

She will vote for this POS bill, even though it also defunds Planned Parenthood, which she previously claimed was unacceptable.

Of course that may be apart of the Kabuki theatre anyways. Have that in there, get Collins to say that is the price of her voting for it, then scrapping the PP defunding which they knew they would have to do anyway to get her and Murkowski onboard.

Yep. McConnell will give two Republicans a pass, if necessary. Their constituents fall for their phony independence every time.

Kinda tired of your “concerned moderate” act, Susie. I bet you talk about how important good nutrition is and healthy foods are, and promise to fix lots of organic veggies and stuff … and then you throw a fuckin’ Hot Pocket in the microwave for dinner.

She’ll get the PP defunding removed then her and Murkowski can claim victory and vote for it.

The Dems have to be ready to kill this in reconciliation with a stack of 40k amendments (which reconciliation will have to allow) and simply run out the clock on this Congress.

And the dance has begun.

We hope you enjoy tonight’s performance of “Susan Collins: Woman of Conscience!” Stay tuned for our encore presentation: “Rand Paul: Principled…Libertarian?”

(We regret to inform you that “Mike Lee: Constitutional Scholar” has been canceled due to its totally unbelievable premise. Thank you.)

Despite the bewildering array of diversity among GOP Senators, the casual observer should not be fooled:

Republican upper-chamber taxonomy boils down to a single species: “Homo Partisan”.

Some specimens chronically assume the classic mating posture to alpha party leaders (see: “Cotton, Tom”).

Others display mock aggression before abruptly exposing their haunches (see: “McCain, John”).

Many engage in an elaborate and coy dance, often lasting days, before they yield (see: “Collins, Susan”).

But in the end, the species simply cannot overcome its biological urges to put party before country.

Everything else is just minor variation in plumage, habitat, and diet.

Susan Collins is concerned. Oh dear lord. There’s just no mystery in life any more.

Susan Collins being concerned is not news. She expresses concern and then caves.

Is that all she questions? GOP might give her a pass on this. Mitch can let 2 go if he thinks it will help them in future elections. But my money is that 50 will fall in line.
