Not so much thinking about coddling. More about understanding so that they can be fought effectively. But also about changing the public dialog to make it clear that Trump supporters and teahadis are the outliers, and that the rest of us are the Real Americans. Heck, even the term “minorities” buys into the notion that this tiny, angry slice of people is a majority of the country.

I disagree for two reasons. One, “What’s wrong with White Men” once again makes the focus on white men. White men have been focused on enough, it’s time to give every one else more control over the agenda, and part of that is focusing on everyone else in news stories that aren’t bullshit “black on black violence” style stories.
The other reason is women and minorities are two of the core constituencies of the Democratic party. White men are not. Let’s hear stories about our side to balance out the overabundance of Trump stories.

Laws, gerrymandering and ownership of legislative and executive offices effectively dictate what defines the majority. Republicans hold most statehouse Governorships. The have the majority in most state legislatures. They control the school boards that dictate educational policy in terms of textbook sales, even to liberal districts. If there are ten liberals in a room and the 11th person with the gavel, the gun and the keys to the prison is a staunch conservative what purpose does supremacy in numbers serve them? Seems to me this tiny, angry slice of the populace, as you term them, has done a mighty fine job of fashioning themselves into the majority that is a minority.

No, white males in the US (I am one) really are, on balance, awful people. Racist, sexist, religiously intolerant, rapey, generally lacking in empathy. Opinion polling across a wide range of issues shows this to be the case, over and over again. The fact that there are very many exceptions only underscores how repulsive the politics and corrosive the culture of the majority of white males in this country is. The demographic shifts that are happening now are really our only hope as a nation.

This poll proves THAT white women are not as affected by discrimination as women of color…who are discriminated NOT only for their color but also by their gender…IT’S DOUBLED.

i ask because the msm went on and on about women and the young delivering for obama but on closer analysis, it was women of color and youth of color that did the delivering, while mittens won the majority of the white woman and white youth vote. WOC voted overwhelmingly for wendy davis but she lost white women

Exactly. Five thirty eight has had several articles this very point. Rarely do you see it discussed in the media because close horse race equals viewers. The time to start taking the polls seriously is when they are comparing the apples of Trump likely voters to the same apples of Hillary likelies, which is a week or two after both conventions.
When the Dems are united behind Hillary, and O campaigns on her behalf with his 10 point plus approval rating, Americans will find out what few know- He created 14,000,000 jobs in 8 years while Bush lost 650,000 in his. Then we will see how the polls reverse on whether Trump or Hillary would be better for the economy.
We may or may not see Hillary narrow that gap among white men to zero, but anything close to zero spells disaster for Repugs.

Agreed. And WTF is it with the wearing of hats indoors? There’s no rain, sun, wind or insects to necessitate wearing a hat. Gentlemen remove their hat indoors, while dining, or in the presence of a lady. All races get this wrong, but white guys seemingly wear fricking ballcaps everywhere but in the shower. What the hell?

his support is being drawn pretty evenly from both candidates.
The total numbers Johnson is getting from both parties might be statistically very small, but the support he gets from Republicans is double what he’s getting from Dems—6% vs 3%. I’m a bit surprised he’s not getting more from Republicans, but the real test is what happens when Trump comes out of the convention with the nomination and the Trumpian reality hits Republicans in the face.

So, etiquette is quaint. Hmmm, does your neglect of decorum extend to other areas of behavior? Do you scratch at your balls in the ticket line to the movies? Fart loudly in crowded elevators? Spit on the floor at the basketball arena? Pick your nose while talking to the clerk at the dry cleaners?
I guess there is a certain feeling of liberation going through life holding the opinion there’s no such thing as gentlemanly personal conduct. Kinda like being Adam Sandler 24/7.

What polls like these never mention is that Trump—or any Republican today—is going to pull huge majorities of white males in the states of the Confederacy. If you look at the racial makeup of voters in states outside of the Confederacy, the margin is considerably smaller in many states.

Personally I find the wearing of neckties inside or out far more offensive than wearing hats. Neckties are the very symbol of mindless conformity doncha think?
Living in abject fear likely elevates blood pressure, increases the odds of suffering a heart attack, causes ulcers, suicide and a few other fatal maladies or conditions. White people living in abject fear is a feature, not a bug.
Neckties are usually optional in most social settings. Formal affairs or employment related duties commonly dictate neckties, but you always have the option to decline attending such affairs or working for companies requiring a tie. Nor are there longstanding rules of etiquette accepted by civilized people that the absence of a tie in a non-formal, relaxed social setting is an aggregious faux pas. However, the wearing of a hat at the dining table is universally recognized the conduct of a true vulgarian. It’s not a matter of debate.
