Discussion: Support For Roe V. Wade Reaches New Heights In NBC/WSJ Poll

The 52% of Republicans who support “Roe v. Wade” should wake up and notice NONE of the GOPers they vote for actually agree with them.

I doubt it will make a difference in the SCOTUS pick, that ship sailed on November 2016. However, maybe it will make folks consider their future voting decisions.

Kavanaugh has the popularity of the unsuccessful nominees Bork and Miers.

. . . in the last few decades at least, Supreme Court nominees as unpopular as Kavanaugh have never been successfully confirmed.

And exactly how do we expect this poll to influence Mitch McConnell and his minions?

I don’t think popularity will factor into this. Seriously. The white ruling class, at this point, isn’t as interested in popularity as they are in power. Their days are numbered, they know it. They’re shooting for the moon, which is why they are backing Trump’s toxic moves.

I think they will argue “partisan politics!!!1!” and push forward on his experience.

I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

Different world today, though. The members of the Senate then were honorable. Not so today.

They know.

There are a significant number of citizens out there who vote GOP solely for the tax cuts. They are often socially liberal but those views don’t motivate them, money does.

Support For Roe V. Wade Reaches New Heights In NBC/WSJ Poll

That’s nice.

Wake me when it registers these new heights in an exit poll in November.

I figure that if enough negative info can go out about Kavanaugh that republicans find they just can’t support him without too much hurt then he’s done.

Looking more promising, especially after his suggestion that the POTUS is above the law.

You just described my brother to a “T”.

The senate has 51 Rs with one of them McCain not going to vote, Ds have 49 including two Is. We’d need two rogue Rs (you know who I’m talking about), and Kavanaugh’s done. But waiting in the wings is an equally right wing figure courtesy of the Federalist Society, TBA, if it’s not Kavanaugh. We tried telling people to vote in 2016 to prevent this kind of scenario, and did they listen? Forty percent didn’t.

It’s just another issue, cervantes Important to women for sure.

Just like the environment, (where the rules about the endangered species list are undergoing a sad revision because oil, gas, and fossil fuel people have this administration’s ear) the economy, jobs (where wages continue to lag), and the administration’s stance against immigration (separating children from parents, some maybe permanently).

But this is also an important issue for women because it’s a repeated effort to remove control over their own bodies.

Just try it, assholes.

There’s a lot of pooh-poohing that anything would “really” happen to abortion rights. It’s all the reassurance they need while they count their money, whether that be actual or dreamed of.

ETA: Even back in the day the barriers for women wealthy enough to travel or to find the “right” doctors were relatively low. Worst case for some of these folks would be taking a portion of their tax-cut money to send their daughter to Europe for some R&R.

You think support will subside between now and November 6. I don’t. Women who care about other women won’t think it’s just optimistic polling.

This kind of thinking / polling reinforces the damaging trend to turn the Supreme Court into a political popularity contest. More than a trend, I know. More like an accomplished fact. I remember and miss a time when the report of every decision wasn’t accompanied by a paragraph explaining which president appointed which judge. I doubt we will ever get back to those days.

I meant that these poll results are nice but I’m not celebrating until I see that these same people have voted, and on the basis of their support for Roe — and not only this November, either.

Those GOP misogynist fascist assholes are going to reap the whirlwind.

Everybody who was the least bit sentient knew that abortion rights were on the line in November 2016. If you don’t defend your rights, you lose them.
