Discussion: Support For Roe V. Wade Reaches New Heights In NBC/WSJ Poll

It’s not just Roe that will get people to the polls.

The very old musical and film Damn Yankees had a song called You Gotta Have Heart, a hopeful message about how to win despite the odds saying there’s no winning. Everything I’ve read says people and particularly women will be voting (and running for office in historic numbers) and it’s because PP has pissed everyone off more than we could’ve imagined. So Fox viewers will turn out and it appears lefty voters will too.

53% of white women voted for Trump when it was obvious that he was in favor of overturning Roe.

We tried telling people to vote in 2016 to prevent this kind of scenario, and did they listen? Forty percent didn’t.

Yeah, but there were awesome reasons back then that we clung to which were worth ignoring all counter arguments at the time…that are pretty fucking stupid in light of today.

If McCain doesn’t show up to vote then we only need one ® to break ranks. With 99 senators voting there cannot be a tie for VP Mother to break. Even with McCain sitting it out we cannot lose Manchin, Heitkamp or Donnelly. Those are some pretty long odds.

It’s likely a big percentage is now experiencing buyer’s remorse. Or they were from areas which called themselves “prolife”, an oxymoron if there ever was one. There was also a cohort protesting Clinton and thought she’d be elected so what the hell. Let’s squander our vote.

That’s all very well, and I understand that the headline (“reaches new heights”) is “a hopeful message,” but look at the actual data presented by the pollsters:

Do you see something in 2018 that wasn’t there in 2013?

Manchin’s almost certainly a yes vote, and I hate to even say it but I think the other two are as well. So, it’s keep these several rogues on the D roll for the future or confirm this guy. Terrible choice.

They were more afraid of the “other.” Besides, Trump really wasn’t going to do that.

We’re hearing across the country that tariffs are hurting people. His supporters “hope” that he knows what he’s doing.

A creeping sense of “uh,oh.”

I see more anger in 2018.

Way. More. Anger.

The key will be older women talking to younger women about life before Roe. It wasn’t that long ago. Women’s studies classes in college campuses would be a good start because that stuff gets around, word of mouth.

Same results, high support for not overturning it. But ultimately it’s disgusting that an issue so deeply personal for women and potentially life altering is being discussed in the way support for tariffs is.

“I don’t think popularity will factor into this.”

Fully agree. Depending on how the question is asked, 55 to 70% of respondents support RvW.
That matters snot for the bible thumping and Fake bible thumping crowd currently in power.
Which will approve anti-abortion Kavanaugh.

I see some cracks in Kavanaugh’s approval, but barring a visit from a Marvel Super Hero, it will be steam-rolled through the Senate.

Haven’t many watched or read The Handmaid’s Tale?

Seems like it would be educational.

Sometimes threads here have gone OT with a majority of female users weighing in on their personal experiences. We do talk to each other when we can, but it used to seem like it was settled, so real world conversation was minimal. Blogs sometimes invite women to weigh in, so it does go public, but to have a majority of men in politics making these decisions for us using political considerations only and not health is repugnant.

Exactly, but did that same high support determine anything in 2016?

When do we talk about prostate glands and erectile dysfunction and craft legislation around these issues? Never? Thought so
