Discussion: Study: Fox News Viewers Are More Uninformed About Immigration

Discussion for article #223744

Watch all media grow shy or divert the topic when “doing something” about FOX-led media bullying is mentioned.
Bottom line, all media finds deregulation too profitable to reverse no matter the cost to America…Anyway, isn’t old media dying or on track to become the trashy, soft porn supermarket tabloid of the 21st century? Plus, considering their track record, why would anyone seek media advice?

Ah, yet another template headline: “Fox News Viewers Are More Uninformed About _______________________”. Just fill in the blank with any topic and you have a valid headline. On the other hand, Fox viewers are not so much uninformed as misinformed. Some uninformed people can figure it out for themselves. Fox viewers never get the chance. Misinformation and disinformation are handed to them on a platter 24/7.

So the ‘reanimated religionists’ don’t want a path to citizenship for immigrants? What, is it because they think the country is too full or something? There’s plenty of room for everyone. Wait a second, that reminds me of a story I read once about a traveling couple with a baby who kept getting turned away because there was no room. Eventually, I think, someone finally let them sleep in a barn or something? I don’t remember all the details. But I suppose it’s not the same thing.

Fox viewers are more uninformed about EVERYTHING. Except Hasselbeck’s legs.
Benghazi! Berghdahl!

The headline can be shortened to: The Fox Effect: Viewers Are More Uninformed

Any category of “news” disseminated by fox is politicized hogwash and I am amazed at how the other journalist and news organizations put up with, and at times defends, fox. Fox’s blatant republic party ideology hidden as 'news" is one of the biggest (true) news stories of a generation but nobody will take it on. So weird.

Tell us something we don’t know. This is a total waste of space.

I didn’t need a study to tell me this…but it does clear up the issue for the misinformed…Too bad they won’t be reading or hearing about it anytime soon. The hermetically-sealed faux universe that has been created for these whacko-birds won’t allow it to seep in…so they’ll never know how misinformed they truly are. Ironic huh?

Consider that what the report means is, there is absolutely no way in hell that republicans will pass any sort of immigration reform this year, with their base so locked into ignorance.

Immigration reform has now become a “blue/red” issue on which identify politics will trump any actual proposed legislation or plans. Doesn’t matter what ever is in it, if its called “Immigration Reform” it will have zero republican support.

Their base’s ignorance and stupidity is a feature, not a bug, for the Rethugs. It’s a significant, if not the largest, part of the reason they’ve been doing their damnedest to destroy the public education system in this country.

Shorter me: Stupid states vote Republican.

One of the more disturbing qualities of our friends on the Right is their unwillingness to so much as look at primary sources.
Everything they know, or think they know, has to be “sanitized” for them of any information that might not support their party line, and otherwise tailored to fit a right-wing narrative.

So it’s not simply that they’re getting their information from unreliable sources (Fox, Rush, et al.), but also that they’ve been conned into distrusting the most reliable sources.
For example, they trust oil company shills over scientists–and they have scores of reasons for doing so, all ridiculous, but real to them.
Or their insistence that polls showing Obama ahead in the 2012 election (i.e., almost all of them) were biased–as if there were some point in paying good money for a poll to get inaccurate information.

The idea that you could simply perform the back-breaking labor of personally checking facts and their contexts yourself (i.e., a couple of mouse-clicks) and then actually do your own thinking–is really beyond them. So we have a large percentage of the population whose ability to think at all is grossly atrophied. (Anyone who doubts this is welcome to review the comments on Yahoo News.)

Fill the blank in with “EVERYTHING!”

I have these fantasies where someone who works at Fox (Kelly or Hasselbeck or Doocie) comes into my restaurant (I don’t own a restaurant or work at one, but I have this fantasy) just so I can look around, see several empty tables and tell them, “I’m sorry, we’re completely booked tonight.”

That’s what makes them the “let’s end this godless Agenda 21 YooEnn plot called “Common Core” and develop our own state wide standard consisting of locking kids up in a Charter School that’s distinguishable from a Madrassa only through choice of holy book” party.

Wasn’t that the family that the story said eventually had to immigrate to a different country, Egypt I believe, due to problems in their home country?

The central point you missed is how this unmarried couple with the unwanted pregnancy actually drew illegal immigrants from far away into the country. Granted, these were the rich gift-giving kind of illegals, but illegals nonetheless.

Except their bases ignorance on this issue actually hurts them in this cases as it forces them into a position that will serve to alienate one of the fastest growing demographic groups in the country which hurts their long term viability as a party. So in this case the bases ignorance helps the Democrats, at least in the long term.

That’s silly. Laws don’t apply to rich people.

42% of Republicans who trust Fox News believe in a path to citizenship…anyone else think that’s much higher than expected? Like they sometimes even have trouble misinforming their most devoted audience?
