Discussion: Stewart Mocks Dems' Obama Retreat: It's Like We 'Found Your Porn'

Discussion for article #229442

Oh what I would give for some more Dems like Warren and Sanders, who are willing to stand up and be proud of being true blue liberals. Most of the Dem politicians are their own worst enemies. They allow the damn media to scare them into acting like idiots, because instead of just running on some facts and statistics, and the populist issues that poll after poll show are winners, they pull stupid crap like this.

This President had the worst problems to deal with when he came into office since FDR, and the FACTS show he has been a huge success at turning things around, and if the Dems had any spines, they would be screaming those facts, instead of running from them, and allowing their opponents and our corporate media to create a false reality. Most of the Dem politicians are the skinny kid getting sand kicked in their faces, and they are too afraid to fight back, while the CONS are the school yard bullies that keep getting away with their crap.

The Dems will whine about the media lies, and then do nothing but perpetuate those lies with crap like this. This is why some people say that there is no difference between the two parties. On one hand they are wrong, because there is a huge difference between the policies of the two parties, but they are right that neither one of the two parties has any principles they will stand on.

If you damn spineless Dems had spent the last 6 years, standing up and shouting about the false caricature that you have allowed the media to portray of this President, then you would not now have to keep being portrayed as the fools that you all are allowing yourselves to look like.

You’re completely 100% wrong. It isn’t the Dems being spineless, it’s progressives like you talking smack about Dems who are the spineless ones.

Democrats can’t do a thing right now because they don’t have a majority in the government to do so. What do you expect Democrats to do at this point when the GOP has enough sway in the Senate to filibuster any legislation, and another filibuster in the form of a GOP House majority?

As for Warren and Sanders, they are irrelevant right now. Why are they irrelevant? Because they don’t have a majority in either chamber to pass legislation. By attacking Democrats as weak and spineless, you actually make it more likely that the GOP wins the Senate, and thus, Warren and Sanders have less power and influence to get things accomplished in the Senate. Progressives like you are Democrats’ worst enemies. Time to play politics smarter, not harder.

Oh please idiot, this has nothing to do with voting majorities, and if you could comprehend what you read, you might see that in my comment. This has to do with the CONS always using a megaphone to get their lies out there, while the spineless Dems sit there and allow it. As you can see from my comment, I did say this President has been very successful, and most intelligent people know that he didn’t do it alone.

I am far from the only Dem around that is sick and tired of my party allowing the right’s lies to go on and on. If you can’t see who is responsible for that happening, then you are one of the blind Dems, that the trolls talk about, because you refuse to see that the Dems can’t blame anyone but themselves for allowing the false narrative the right has created, which by the way IS the reason for this President’s low approval ratings, NOT FACTS. I am 58, and have voted for the Dems, and volunteered for Dems, and donated to Dems since I was 18, so how dare you tell me that I am not a liberal. Now go take a reading comprehension class.

When people are polled on Obama’s policies, they approve (see, individual aspects of PPACA and foreign policy). But all they hear about on the news is bungled Obamacare website, Obama’s a weak world leader, can’t manage the economy, mom jeans, dictator, etc. The Dems need to do a better job of putting their policies on the ballot and defending why they’re good ideas.

The “cons” as you call them use a “megaphone” to diminish turnout. That’s their only strategy, diminishing turnout, and you are helping the GOP in their efforts by saying essentially the exact same thing that they’re saying: Democrats suck!

The key to winning is getting non traditional voters to show up and support Democrats. When said voters hear from the right wing that Democrats suck, and they hear it from the “Democratic base” as well, why would they show up and vote?

And you’re acting as if “The Dems” are some void out there. It’s not “the Dems” parading this rhetoric about “Dems are spineless” equating to “Democrats suck,” it’s the unicorn progressives such as yourself that allow yourself to be intimidated by GOP rhetoric. Instead of working against the GOP, you work against Democrats. That’s the bottom line.

Obama isn’t on the ballot, and he isn’t an issue. What are issues are raising the minimum wage, expanding healthcare, all of which these Democrats have talked about endlessly. It’s not the Democrats’ job alone to talk about positive things Democrats are for, remember what Obama said in 08 when he said we have to be the change we seek? Seems like a lot of the folks who talk about “the Dems not promoting Obama’s policies” seem to have forgotten how it was Obama who essentially stated that we had to be the ones to be the change that we seek.

Yes, the 15% of progressives out there are wimps.

I agree completely. The Republicans smell blood in the water when the Democrats have no courage in their convictions. You will now be roundly attacked by people who think it’s ok to do or say anything just to get elected. I was beaten up for criticizing Grimes from running away from her party leader. It only makes her look like a coward.

Pretty much spot on. I am just so, SO pissed off with Jon Stewart right now. He has repeatedly attacked Dems in recent shows, and on Crist and fangate, he just went on about Crist wanting to cool his balls, rather than showing what a catastrophe Rick Scott is. Good God, if this is the best progressives have, no wonder the GOP keeps winning despite believing in the destruction of most of what the vast majority of America holds dear.

Jon Stewart’s complaints are like passengers on the Titanic complaining about the band being out of tune while playing Nearer My God to Thee.

God you are a moron. Voters are hearing weak spined Dems run from this President and what he has accomplished every day. Just keep spewing idiot, because the more you do, the more Fox stupid you sound. I hate to break it to you, but I hear fellow Dems every day saying that the Dems need to get better getting their message out, instead of running from it, which by the way oh so clueless one, is basically what Stewart is pointing out here, that these Dems are spineless for running away from this President, and allowing the right wing lies to stand, instead of fighting back. To say that the only two Dems, who have no problem standing up and telling the TRUTH about what has been accomplished do not natter, shows what an idiot you are. Read some other comments sparky, because you are in the minority, and POT MEET KETTLE, because you are attacking other Dems are you not??

Well who else but us Dems are going to hold our Dem politician’s feet to the fire, and get them to see that they are making the problem even worse. As I said, both Warren and Sanders show how it should be done, and Warren is said to be the most popular Dem in the party, which shows that most of us respect a politician who is not afraid to stand up for their policies and principles. Someone just can’t seem to get it, that I did not attack the Dems for not getting their policies enacted, but instead for not standing up enough for what they have accomplished. Attacking me for being a progressive, and standing up for the two true progressives, kind of proved my point.

i don’t follow arkansas politics; but is mark pryor as fucking stupid as he appears to be.
ain’t nepotism grand…

That megaphone consists of pretty much every single mainstream media outlet. What megaphone do you suggest the Dems use, when, for example, Grimes’s wholehearted support of progressive causes and clinical takedown of McConnell get completely ignored, and she gets called “disqualified” by a high-profile media personality, while McConnell is given a free pass on blatantly lying about Kentuckians keeping Kynect after he repeals Obamacare?

In principle I agree with you. I can’t stand politicians whose entire script is focus-grouped to death. I much prefer people who proudly declare what they believe in and seek to persuade others to believe in it too. But with the corrupt media in the US today, such candidates will usually get crushed.

honestly, i’ve long been suspicious that democrats like being the underdog… that way they never ever have to take responsibility for anything… esp if it can at all be connected to obama.
gutless fucking pukes.

Most of the Senate races are in deep red seats, where many people care less about those things than the blah man in the White House. Sadly, the re-election of many Dems depends on attracting at least some voters for whom that is an issue - or at the very least, ensuring they do not vote for their opponent. Cautious distancing from Obama is the ONLY CHANCE of retaining the Senate. I hate that that is the case, but that is the reality of red state USA today.

What we need is unity. The dialectic with the aim of “I am right” is a slippery slope. But, infighting, ooo/ah Faux loves that. I would bet everyone in this freshly minted discussion/dialectic has more to agree on than disagree. What needs to stop is accusing your fellows of being idiots. President Obama has laid out his case over and over. It always comes down to inclusion rather than exclusion. I’d give him an A+ on progress in this political climate which is largely a function of how we vote. It is a shame so few are at his level. How he has been treated is criminal.

If there is one major issue I have with the president and this administration it’s their inability to sell anything at all when they’re not in campaign mode. They don’t sell themselves or their policies and they almost never have enough surrogates out there combating Republican talking points.

Part of the problem is that they’re so worried about offending somebody that they avoid touting certain successes. A prime example is the economy. They won’t toot their own horn on the economy because there are still people hurting out there. Sure, there’s always going to be people hurting, but you have to take your victories where you can find them. A Republican president who oversaw the economic wins Obama has seen would be shouting it from the rooftops. This administration refuses to do that and it’s a damn shame because they’re not getting much deserved credit from pulling this country from the brink of disaster.

How he has been treated is criminal.

I believe without a doubt that at some point in the years after his presidency ends there will be a national conversation about the way the first black president was treated by the media, by the opposition, and even by his own party.

Well that is the point that I was trying to make to dim one about Warren, who is said to be the most popular Dem in the country, and she seems to just keep getting out there and saying all of those things, that dim one says the Dems stand for. That is why she is now as important of a campaigner for the Dems as the Clintons are, and why Hillary is sounding more and more like her every day. Look all I said is what many of us Dems have been screaming about for years now, that our politicians allow the right to set the narrative, and then whine but do very little to change it.

This President has been for all of those populist issues that the Dems claim to be for, and yet as this article points out, when they run from this President, and say stupid things, instead of telling the media WHY they support him, because he has been championing everything they say they are running on, they are not helping themselves, or the apathy too many Dem voters have. They are just helping to perpetuate the fantasy that the media portrays.

When they have a journalist put a microphone in their faces and give them a chance to promote the policies of our party, and they do what Pryor did, then they are not taking the opportunity. They not only do not try and stop the BS fantasy that the media hypes, but perpetuate it in the mind of voters when they give these weak assed answers. Neither Warren or Sanders do that, and all I said is I wish the other Dems would learn something from them, instead of further playing into the narrative the media puts out there.
