Discussion: State Spox Nuaert: 'I Withdraw My Name From Consideration' For UN Ambassador

She’s 49 and has two sons. Perhaps they’re old enough to suffer from what people have said about her inexperience – adolescents are adept at seeing what’s up on the internet. Her husband is also an executive director at Morgan Stanley, and maybe the chance of conflict of interest reared its ugly head. I can think of lots of personal issues that might affect an attractive, underqualified woman who seems to have advanced way beyond what her education and experience would warrant, and that kind of speculation would also put a strain on her daily life.

In other words, now that it looks like some members of the Senate feel the need to make it look like they aren’t complete rubber stamps for Donnie regardless of how unqualified the nominee, she’s getting out before her public humiliation is complete.

Because you’re a bird. Think about it.

The confirmation hearings would have been brutally painful and cringe worthy.

i think she’s got a pretty big cushion from her time at fox

I rode my Bridgestone steel frame touring bike all over the western U.S. highways with no regrets. But these days it’s dirt trails and a carbon fiber frame. Dual tunable suspension, hydraulic disk brakes, tubeless tires, and 1 x 11 gearing weigh less than the old rigid frame setup.

Didn’t that happen about 20 years ago? I had an amazing aluminum-frame bike that was so light I could throw it over my own head (I weigh about 115 pounds and I’m not strong for that). It got stolen pretty quickly and when I went to buy a new one I found they didn’t make any aluminum ones for under $1000.

More like 10% for me. A significant difference when going uphill.

Hmm, was she hired when Roger Ailes was making decisions at Fox News?

Bike thieves do far more damage than the value of the equipment. I hope you were able to replace it an continue riding. The health benefits of exercise become more valuable as we age.
A homeless man who had to walk 4 miles back from his job to the homeless shelter because the bus was not running at the time he got off told me he was doing it so he could save up first and last month and deposit on an apartment. I fixed up a beater bike that was wasting away in a garage and gave it to him. New tires, tubes, cables, grease, and adjustments cost me less than fifty bucks. He could hang it on the front of the bus to go to his job, and then ride it back. About six weeks later he came by and showed me the key to his home. Now there is a local charity for people who can not afford bike shop prices to do their own repair work. They also allow people to work off the cost of one of their used bikes if they have no cash. I see those bikes chained up at local burrito shops and know how the employees are getting to work. What is the value of taking a person off the street and making them self supporting?

I was, but only with a much heavier one. That got stolen too but not until several years later (they cut the guy cable on an electric pole to get it; earlier they had dug out the stop sign I had locked it to but couldn’t get the lock around the concrete block at the bottom, so I came back to find my bike still locked to the uprooted sign). I was fortunate to have a job that gave me enough money to afford to replace them and friends who could give me rides, but I also couldn’t drive because of epilepsy and was living 30 miles from the nearest town with no bus service.

I still remember having my bike stolen at school in the 5th grade. There was a journalist who rode a Huffy (UCK! $87 @ Kmart more or less assembled by the stock guys) around town that said he rode a bike that no one would steal. For your distances you need the kind of efficiencies that light weight and fine bearings can provide. E-bikes only get about 25 miles of range. That stop sign bike thief did not seem to be very bright. A curse on all bike thieves.
