While I don’t recall that, it doesn’t surprise me.
From that era I do recall Congressman Tom Tancredo railing against “illegals”, and then learning that most of his home’s renovations and lawn work were done by… yep undocumented immigrants. I think that even after that disclosure he attempted to run (very briefly) for president.

Cameron Diaz kind of looks like her. Maybe she could perform the role of a totally unqualified, inexperienced State Spox for a time. Maybe things are slow, no good RomCom scripts have come her way for awhile. Tom Cruise is too busy to produce, direct and star in Knight and Day 2.0. Which was an ok enough movie, if only HBO didn’t show it 24/7.
Short story: I thought I would be rubber-stamped for this job. No one told me that I would have to undergo an extensive background check.

Something along these lines actually is what I’m thinking…she’s been out of a job for four months now and you get used to a certain lifestyle. Even just taking a government job must have been a big step down.
During the vetting they realized this woman wasn’t despicable and stupid enough to make America Grate Again at the UN. This is a high profile gig, they need to reach lower.
