Pure communism is actually the opposite of authoritarianism, with all members of society holding equal sway over decisions.

There has never been a pure communist state - unless you believe Acts of the Apostles and the description therein of the early Christian Church. Every other so-called communist state in recorded history either started as an authoritarian state or collapsed into one. If you remember your Orwell, Animal Farm devolved into authoritarianism with the ascent of the pigs.
