Discussion for article #238178

Wonder who the Infamous Three are, and what their predictably stupid reasons were for not making it a unanimous vote.

Who were the 3 who voted no?

Why focus on 3 when 37 others have voted overwhelmingly to remove the flag and the pole?

Be happy for an awesome result for once!!!

How very brave of them. Wait, the vote was not unanimous?

Anybody wanna bet me money that those three hold-outs are old white dudes?

And right on cue the apologist for the racist myth-making that the parties didn’t realign over civil rights in the mid-late 20th century chimes in to try and throw sand in the gears.

Southern white women can be some mean ol’ coots, too. They can do racism, misogyny, homophobia and xenophobia with the best of them.

To answer my original question…

“Voting no were Senate Majority Leader Harvey Peeler of Gaffney, Sen. Lee Bright of Spartanburg County and Sen. Danny Verdin of Laurens.”

I’m actually pleasantly surprised by this.

That is predicated upon there actually being women Republicans on the senate. There is one, Katrina Shealy.

Nevermind… I was headline cherry-picking.

Couldn’t agree more… but there is only one woman in the South Carolina Senate…

Thank you CaptainCommonsense.

The purpose of a flag on a government building is to be informational. It is a statemen that says… These are the laws, and regulations the people who work in this building are operating under. In this case it is the constitution of the state of South Carolina. The Confederacy has not existed for 150 years. Its Flag should not be flying over any government building.

This is a win for sure… So Mississippi, consider yourself on notice…

Well then, kicking and screaming, SC has finally been dragged by its unkempt pubic hair into the 20th century. One can only wonder what it’s gong to take to get them into the 21st…and when they’ll arrive.
