Discussion: So Long And Thanks For All The Fishing! 3 Days With Neil Gorsuch

Not to worry, he’ll be just like a baseball umpire. As the old George Carlin joke goes, ā€œI call 'em as I see 'em. When i don’t see 'em, i make 'em up.ā€ I’m really afraid this man will be quickly confirmed to Judge Garland’s rightful seat on the Court, and he will make Scalia look like a careful, impartial justice. The only way this will be stopped is if the Democrats in the Senate hold steady (not likely with members like Joe Manchin) and if there are at least a few Republicans who actually have some concerns for our Constitutional system. Both of those premises are very, very shaky.

Simply stated, if Tweeto Cheeto nominated Gorsuch, he’s tainted and unfit to serve. Actually, they both are. Period.

He’s got a history of cruel decisions and that’s why Trump want’s him on the Court. He’s a perfect SCOTUS Conservative. Soft, insulated from the world by the taxes of those he flays and full of shit. He’s never been close to the world his victims live in. No empathy just a cruel man with a ā€œoriginalismā€ shtick. many American’s will suffer because of him.

We can take cold comfort in the fact that the country has essentially been destroyed by two illegitimate elections (2000, 2016), both of which took place outside the bounds of ā€˜our democracy’. The system would have worked!

Real people with real life problems will be ā€œfrozenā€ out if Gorsuch is confirmed. Frankly, qualifications aside, I believe the Democrats are obligated to filibuster him because Presidents cannot nominated SC justices while under a cloud from an investigation. In 100 years this precedent has not been broken.

Anything less than an eye for an eye for the Garland nomination (forcing the GOP to go nuclear on a filibuster), and the Democratic Party never gets another dollar from me.

Our current precedent has broken a whole lot of things. America as a first world nation, America having global respect; honor; integrity; allegiance to your own country… The list goes on and on…

I wish that precedent would become unpresidented.

There’s going to be a lot of long-term fallout from the Trump debacle. But Judge Gorsuch will have the worst and most lasting impact, I believe.

Come over here, I have these here DoDo Birds for sale…

Pathetic. Gorsuch should be interviewed for Inside the Actors Studio by James Lipton for that performance, not by these pukes for the Supreme Court. What a farce. What a shallow exercise, deliberately pulling the wool over the American people’s eyes, just so nobody knows what kind of extremist this guy really is or expose what he really thinks about the law and how he’ll apply it.

In some sense, its The Andy Griffin Show, Supreme Court edition. ā€œGee golly, Opie…lets take the day off and go fishin’ together. No one will care.ā€

Gorsuch is moving up fast on my To Hate List.

Came across this

"Never before has Senate leadership so openly and intentionally played political games with our highest court. Already, the legitimacy of the supreme court has taken a severe blow because of it. But, if Gorsuch is confirmed, it would lock in a dangerous precedent from which the legitimacy of our highest court might never recover.
Neil Gorsuch confirmation hearing: what you need to know

Republican senators abandoned their constitutional responsibilities and blocked Judge Garland’s nomination last year, for 293 days, leaving the court without a deciding vote on critical issues. They offered no legal justification for their actions, fully admitting that their sole intention was to orchestrate a coup of the supreme court by betting that a Republican would win the White House. We always assume ā€œthe devilā€ is ugly, always snarling, crude, and drooling. In reality, ā€œthe devilā€ bears an astonishing similarity to Neil Gorsuch. I watched him for about 5 minutes before identifying him as someone I would never turn my back on, never buy a used car from, and leave the room if he is in it. I have no problem understanding why little Donnie appointed him, just as I have no problem understanding why little Donnie appointed the others he has appointed. It isn’t certain that we will survive the next 4 years.

I think we should ā€œlet the American people decideā€ and wait for 2020.Until then stall this monster.

Filibuster this illegitimate nominee and expressly brand him illegitimate. Taint this motherfucker so that he has an asterisk next to his name for his entire rotten career. Gorsuch will occupy a stolen seat in order to serve the interests of the GOP. If Dems go quietly, it will only embolden the GOP further to execute its strategy of hollowing out our democracy. I am 100% sure that somebody is trying to figure out how to impeach Sotomayor and Kagan and ram through GOP replacements while the GOP holds the senate.

Schumer’s take on this is good. No vote on Gorsuch so long as there’s an investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia or any cloud of any kind over Trump’s presidency. After all, Trump my have less time left in office than Obama did when he nominated Merrick Garland.

Donald, that’s fair, isn’t it?

Oh, I forgot, no one is fair to Donald, ever. Never mind.

Sadly, the question may no longer be whether or not the Democrats will filibuster; it may now be how many will vote for him.
