This reminds me of the time when white students rioted on my college campus in 1979 after the Iranians took Americans hostages at their embassy.
There was a good engineering school on campus that drew a lot of students from the Middle East – Libya, Egypt, Iran, etc.
One day, after marinating in the relentless sensationalist daily coverage of the hostage crisis, a small group of students attacked a student they perceived as Muslim. The riot spread to dozens of students who rampaged and wound up shutting down the entire campus for a day.
During the rampage, a classmate of mine – a Jewish American citizen with dark curly hair and a swarthy complexion – got cornered in the cafeteria by the mob. He jumped up on a table, but they grabbed him, dragged him off, and beat him senseless before campus security was able to pull them away.

I clicked on the article to see where this happened, thinking perhaps in the south. No, it is in the Chicago area, actually in a more affluent western suburb.
The suspect is a teenager, apparently. Empowered by the likes of Sarah Palin and now Trump.
Like the first comment, American exceptionalism (which the right wing had accused Obama of not believing in) has metamorphosed into a symbol of racist hatred and the “freedom” to exhibit it openly and with gusto. Though other countries obviously have their problems with this, I am sure that this must be seen as a real feature of America now. It has always been part of our history, but it is stunning to me, how many running for major political offices and the presidency are leading the charge.
We can be shocked, disgusted, and nauseated by it. And, sometimes, just want to weep.

Honestly, some things just can’t be “off limits.” If I can laugh hysterically at “drunk irishman” stereotypes jokes, then by god people better be able to laugh at jokes about names like “Plaxico” and “Ladainian.” I mean wtf haha. The ones that add “La” or “Da” or “Sha” in front of a normal name crack me up because it’s so lazy. If you’re gonna do it, go for the gold with something totally made up and crazy like “Plaxico”.
Actually, speaking of haha, there’s a dude literally named “Ha Ha Clinton-Dix” in the NFL now. That one surely takes the cake lol
